Hope they enjoy the record. Smarter and less sentimental GMs would have let Yadi go years ago.

They have not brought anyone up who could easily surpass him, definitely not his defense and knowledge of the pitchers and the game.

Their top catching prospect over the years has been Carson Kelly. Look at his offensive numbers this year compared to Molina.

Wasn’t Kelly part of the Goldy deal? I’d rather have Molina and Goldy than Kelly and Matt Carpenter.

Yeah, Kelly and Weaver were the main pieces, with Andy Young

    His 57 ABs? Mmk.

Strawman anyway. Develop better catchers or trade/sign one?

I respected the decision to let Albert go. It was smart. Keeping Yadi wasn’t.

Every contract Yadi has signed has been perfectly reasonable. His defense and handling of the pitching staff has been vital to the team's success during his tenure. Since 2011 when Albert left he's been the best defensive catcher in baseball.

Besides Buster Posey, who else should have they signed 🤣. In 18 seasons Yadi has made almost 164 million dollars. That's less than 10 million dollars per season for his career.

Yadier has a career fWAR of 55.9. in 2006 1 fWAR was worth 4.8 million dollars. So for 164 million dollars, the Cardinals got in return 268 million dollars of value, without adjusting that the price of WAR has only gone up.

You sir don't have the credibility to judge an office fantasy GM, let alone a MLB GM 🤣

I think your math needs a little work.

That’s some hardcore confirmation bias. If you believe his recent 711, 662, 667, and current 627 OPS is only topped by Posey, you deserve to be the Cardinals GM for sure.

The Cardinals aren’t the first team to hold onto an aging star too long and won’t be the last. Enjoy his mediocrity for one last year. Cool record.

I guess baseball decisions are more difficult without hacking into the Astros scouting system.

Of course you also cherry picked his worst stat. Yadi doesn't walk much so his OBP and OPS is always going to be low. You make it sound like he is the worst catcher in the league

Looking at the 29 catchers with more than 70 AB this season he ranks

    12th in SLG % - Top half
11th in BA - Top half
13th in WAR - Top Half

He also ranks 3rd in DEF among catchers on Fangraphs and is 7th in DRS for catchers with at least 150 innings caught this season.

Is he prime Yadi? No. But he is not nearly as bad as you seem to want to make him sound.

I’m cherry picking and making him look bad by citing his offensive production the last 4 years, but you’re not by citing mediocre stats from a 5 week old season. Interesting world you live in.

And I have no desire to make him sound bad. He was, past tense, an excellent catcher for many years. Just not lately, which is why the extensions were objectively bad.

It's a shame Buster Posey retired early. His health and family come first. I had hoped he'd be around longer but that collision injury cut his career short.

Easily the best catcher of the decade. Should end up in the Hall even with the short career.

The Braves have traded some great young prospects through the years, I think Wainwright was the biggest mistake. Though I would have loved to see what Jermaine Dye could have done with the Braves.

Then there is Atlanta trading for Kevin Gausman and giving up on him after a year. But I digress.

I completely forgot the Braves had Gausman. Wow!

As I said, I never expected a card since it was a dual achievement, even though Topps Now did give them a card, but no acknowledgement at all of two players setting an all time record is a little disappointing.

Here's hoping for something down the line, especially if they break the next record (all time appearances by a battery). These two could have their own program similar to Halladay, where we get various incarnations of their cards to cover their careers.

I mean I am not holding my breath but if you aren't acknowledging all time records being set then I question their intentions to celebrate baseball.
