120hz online

Can someone with more tech savvy than me help? I checked my monitor. I’ve had it a couple years. It’s an Asus vg279. Looks like it’s only giving me 60hz. It says it’s capable of 144hz online and it says it’s a 1.4 HDMI. I’m using “FPS mode.”
Can I get 120hz out of this? What settings do I need to do. I checked the PS5 setting and it’s auto for 120hz. I checked the output (on the PS5 screen) and it’s only giving me 60hz. PS5 is also telling me my monitor can’t do VRR.
Anyone help is needed from someone? Please? Can I get to 120hz? What are the optimal settings for my monitor and PS5?

It’s been that way for Xbox for a year with VRR. I don’t know why they would cater to a 10 year old console. PS5 owners, including myself, will be furious if it isn’t played at 120hz online.
It really would be a kick to the [censored].

I like how 'an.us' is censored but not [censored] lol

Your monitor should get 120 hz but since it’s not VRR compatible you may deal with some potential screen tearing and hitches (which wasn’t too bad for me playing offline modes with 120 hz mode on and a non compatible monitor). Hopefully Sony expands the compatibility list of VRR supported tvs/monitors in the future.

Game only supports up to 4k 60 fps, regardless of what ya set your xbox or PS on 120hz. Pretty sure this is the case
You are correct, 1 sports game plays at 120 fps, F1. People thinking is fps when it’s hz

120 hz at 60 fps still feels a whole lot better than 60 hz at 60 fps though! Hitting is much more smoother and responsive.

So is it confirmed that xbox plays at 120 all the time? And if so so u need hrr or whatever to do it or hdmi 2.1? I am gonna buy xbox if u can just run on 120hz monitor

It doesn’t run at 120 all the time but you’re able to have 120 hz mode on during online play unlike ps5 at the moment. From what I heard from Xbox users, they get around 60-80 fps and will spike up sometimes during cutscenes, etc. That’s why it’s recommended having VRR on to prevent hitches and screen tearing.

Is conquest considered online or do I need to shut off the 120

Really, some communication on this is necessary. This can’t be something they just don’t acknowledge and discuss.
Does that mean me + other lowly PS4 players can be doubly outraged?!?!?

@bhall09_PSN i was wondering the same thing

I’ll allow it. But at the moment SDS is catering to your 10 year old console over the people like me that forked out the money for the next-gen.

There’s always money in the banana stand. Issue for me (and I’m sure many others here) certainly has just been availability of the new system. I’d have no issues upgrading if I could get it.
For the time being though, we’re at least joined in our contempt for Xbox!!!

Here is a good review of someone who played last year on both systems. In short, here is the most important point he makes...FYI:
"After multiple games using the same roster, same opposing pitcher, same stadium, same HDMI cable, and same monitor input for both consoles,I kept getting the same results: Early on 4FB/SNK using XSX, Late on 4FB/SNK using PS5.
I decided to dig deeper into my monitor settings and noticed when using my PS5, the refresh rate was 60Hz (expected). However, when I use my XSX, the refresh rate shows AMD FreeSync Premium active (both 1080p and 1440p).
To this point, PS5 still has not added support for VRR (pathetic by the way, Xbox One X had it day one all the way back in November 2017), but I eagerly await the day they finally do add support. Once they do, I am curious to see if my 4FB/SNK timing improves, but until then I'm going to be playing most/all of my RS games on XSX."

My contempt is with SDS for not allowing PS5 to be on the same playing field as Xbox. But I’m giving them some time to fix it before I jump ship from Sony.

120hz is a hardware sync between the console and monitor. Even if frames don't increase, 120hz reduces the input lag in half, which can be more important than increasing just the frames. For instance, 4k@60 on my LG CX is 10.9ms. 4k@120 on my LG CX is 5.9ms , so my input lag goes in half. This is why 120hz is important, even if you don't get more frames. The Sony VRR patch was needed to avoid screen tearing at the higher refresh rate.
Also, the game is compiled with the 60fps+ spec, which means it can deliver higher than 60fps sometime. That is why SDS uses the term "targeted 60fps gameplay", as frame rates can change (go up or down), depending on load, cables, etc.
The game can do 120FPS (on top of 120hz for the refresh rate) if they compile the code with the 120 frame booster patches that are available on the consoles. That would be great as well, yet 120hz refresh rate in itself is the best as the input lag reduction is significant, and what people are really happy and awe-inspired about.

When you say "input lag" are you referring to the time it takes for your display to react to your input buttons from your controller.... or are you referring to "response time" as in the time it takes for your display to render a moving image?
