Here's how I break out of a slump
-
Recently, I posted earlier that everything just felt "off" to me. I had been in a slump for a few weeks, and I think I've mostly worked my way out of it. Here are the things that I've changed to snap out of it.
-
Camera Angle - I have a tendency to switch cameras when things aren't going well for me. Last year, I primarily used "Strike Zone". After struggling for the last few weeks, I changed back to "Strike Zone High", which seems to be a better fit for me this year. So... switch it up.
-
Watching the ball out of the pitcher's hand - I've been very late on most swings the last few weeks. I noticed that instead of looking at the pitcher's hand, I've been staring at his head. I have no idea why. Maybe it's Jacob deGrom's baby blue eyes... or Max's one baby blue eye. But I was just staring at their heads. So... watch the ball/release point, not their noggin.
-
Thumb position on the left stick. I'm most successful when my thumb is bent at almost a 90 degree angle and right on top of the stick. I noticed that my thumb had "flattened out", and was on the left-hand edge of the stick. As a result, I was flicking all over the place, and much more apt to slam my PCI down. With my thumb on top, I move with more precision and drop it less. So... put your thumb in the right place.
After making these changes, I'm more back to "normal". Please share any tips/thoughts you might have.

I’d link to Mark Grace’s suggestion, but I don’t want to get in trouble.
-
interesting. i’ve always stared at the head

I find I start slumping at the plate when I play too much in one sitting. It's tough to have focus on every pitch over a long period.

Started doing no. 3 this year, plus the stick extension thingy. Helps to prevent slaming the PCI. I still suck, but 5% less.

Me too - Kontrol Freak.

My question is how can you tell the difference between a slump and just a run of playing superior players?

I could tell because I was struggling even offline in Conquest.

Yep logo on hat

I started using Fish Eye primarily because it just looks way cooler when you are super mellow: (Happy 420 everyone) but it also helps me see the ball longer. But seriously, I love the depth of the stadiums in fish eye.
And I still think of Tony Gwynn's instructional videos and watch the imaginary box where the pitcher releases the ball.
Lastly, I play the Orioles at Coors or Shippet on rookie.
Disclaimer: I'm not very good so probably best to disregard above.

BE CAREFUL with this one. Switch it up too often and you’ll be in a vicious cycle of never getting settled in / having enough reps to get used to it.
-
this Is the most important tip. Sometimes I’ll even put the pci right where the pitch comes out and I’m early on those.
-
good tip as well

Yeah. That's the only way I can tell, because I play offline. For me it's usually psychological, but many times it's because I am locked into a singular type approach and forget that the CPU will stop throwing high if I murder it high enough or low if I am murdering it low it will start throwing more high pitches. But playing vs people I just assume I suck.

Very true... when I'm struggling, I start switching camera angles all the time, and it never helps in the long run.
-
- Camera Angle changes
- Re-commit to working counts/being very tight in swing selection
- Take a break
- Change modes eg go from BR to moments etc
- Change players in lineup
