I stopped reading after you mentioned the only online you’ve done is playing event games today.
Cause none of this stuff happens in any other gameplay? You really want to go that route?
I’m going the route of not bothering to read a wall of text titled “my annual assessment…” when it’s based on only handful of online games. Yes.
Not just a handful, a whole day of playing. I've been doing this assessment every year in the exact same fashion, and I have identified issues that were at some point in time generally accepted by the community as a whole each and every time. Sorry if I didn't meet your criteria.
Anytime.
Anytime? That's your response? Okay.
Breathe. You don’t need validation from everyone. It’s not personal. Everything you said may be true. I just don’t care to read it because I have the ability to think. You know, small sample sizes.
You don't read because you think?
The profound irony in that statement is staggering.
Thinking here is the ability to assess if something is worth reading or not due to its origin. If you need help developing this and other critical thinking skills please let me know. As a former educator it was kind of my thing. (Seriously, lots of resources for you.)
Former educator of what? With that attitude...
If you are as smart as you are claiming you would have followed up appropriately on the fact that this person does this every year. Gameplay is usually consistent. Not sure why you think the sample size is inadequate; this isn't a poll.
Also, I would think a former educator would have a little more humility and be less condescending and venomous. Almost makes me wonder why you are a former educator. Maybe you were in it for the wrong reasons if you have to be this snide rather than genuinely trying to educate people.
You can't just be a condescending douche, immediately discard someone's analysis one sentence in without taking context into account and then claim you were an educator. Something is wrong with this equation.
Usually people who have to push so hard on people what their qualifications are usually tend to be making it up or lost face because of their attitude. You saying "former" raises a lot of questions in the context of your posts. You're quite egotistical and childish for an educator.
High school social studies. Specifically media literacy, psychology, and modern world history. I took a lower stress and higher paying job working from home in 2020.
I would argue that more people need to be filtering their information and disregarding much of it.
And thank you for the baseless insults and name calling. Keep fighting the good fight.
I didn't see anything about reading, English, statistics, philosophy or anything comprehensive and you were disregarding of someone's analysis a sentence in, completely disregarding the context so obviously that particular area is not your area of expertise and you are stepping into a lane you might not have authority on. Just food for thought. Being an educator of some things doesn't make you an educator of all things.
Filtering has nothing to do with it. You literally disregarded an entire argument without even taking context into account or asking questions. Sorry, but that is actually a LACK of literacy.
What were the baseless insults and name-calling? I don't recall presenting any of either. My comments toward you were technical and correct. Douche, perhaps? OK. You were being disrespectful. You're merely getting back what you are giving and seem oblivious to it. Lack of self-awareness is a bad trait for a teacher.
To be an actual educator you need to learn that people don't tend to learn by being condescended to, talked venemously to and being treated like garbage. Humility, respectfulness and patience are needed to be an educator and you clearly fail at all of those, which is alarming as those traits being needed is basically education 101. It's rather embarrassing for you to act like you can't understand why people wouldn't be receptive to "learning" from someone who doesn't have those aforementioned BASIC necessities to actually teach people things. People not reacting well to someone being a douche to them. Imagine that.
There. I just taught YOU something. Whether you actually learn is yet to be seen.
I have not claimed to be an authority on anything here. That’s the other guy. And unlike you, I have not stated an intention to teach here…on an gaming forum. You infer a lot from very little and are incorrect in your inferences.
But hey, I’ll bite. Statistics are at the core of psychological research. Critical thinking is at the core of philosophy, but also social studies. English? I mean. Writing and reading comprehension are heavily utilized in these (all?) fields as well.
And if you can’t see choosing not to consume information based on its lack of validity as filtering, I’m sorry.
So basically you don't have the same philosophy speaking to people through your computer as you do in the classroom. This only speaks further to your poor character and delusion.
Good thing you say you didn't claim expertise on those things, because you clearly lack some very basic skills needed to teach.
I once dealt with someone claiming to be a teacher who mocked handicapped children and said they were put on earth for her amusement, so you simply claiming to be a teacher doesn't mean much to me. I will judge the validity of your words by engaging in your arguments; I'm not gullible.
You can't preach "critical thinking" after making assumptions and ignoring context after dismissing an entire argument after hearing one sentence. Sorry, you need to sit this one out. Your lack of self-awareness is showing.
Perhaps you will get validity if you don't stop reading the paragraph after one sentence? Seems pretty simple to me. Ya kinda have to keep reading it you want to conclude whether there was actual validity or not. His position WAS validated and let you didn't relent and instead only became MORE aggressively arrogant. Funny.
Everything I have "inferred" is quite clear, despite your denial.
Mmk. You can have the last word, Raes. Back to work.
Someone evidently didn't like being put in his place, so this response was predictable; this is usually how someone who has lost an argument tends to respond.
I hope you become a better person, drop the act and actually learn what being a teacher is really about; obviously you still have a lot to learn yourself.
Another 2 day old account. Really pulling out all the stops. Pathetic and sad, but also entertaining. Good stuff.
And I am just deciding to prioritize work, or really anything, over playing personal attack whack-a-mole with your 2nd and now 3rd accounts. If you choose to see that as “putting me in my place”, well, I can see how we got here.
Actually it's older, I just integrated my old account and my Switch account together so I let that one stay in place for the forum. Not sure what relevance this discussion has with how long I've been on the forum. The only thing you seem to actually do well here is make assumptions. It appears clear you are not nearly the scholar you attempt to paint yourself as.
Usually someone who loses an argument does exactly what you are doing. Pinned the corner, swinging wildly.
You keep drenching your posts in arrogance and Venom while protecting it onto other people, all because you couldn't acknowledge the fallacious first posts you made dismissing an gigantic, analytical post because you didn't see something after ONE SENTENCE that you would have found if you'd have kept reading.
I'm just using logic 101 against you and it's pretty easy. The only thing that is pathetic is your insanely jaded attitude, hypocrisy, narcissism, insecurity and projection while you claim to have had a profession that requires you not exhibit most of those things. Did you say you taught psychology? Either way, you yourself are perfect psych 101 model of study and appear to be a textbook narcissist.
We "got here" because you had an ego and resorted to logical fallacies with your very first posts. And now bringing up how long I have been on this board as if it has literally any relevance with any part of this discussion.
You're looking for a way to get a leg up and be right. You can't. It's over. Just bow out gracefully or humble yourself. Otherwise, please do us a favor and let cooler heads teach and stay retired. There is enough damaged goods out there monitoring people's children.
Notice how although I have been frank, I have been calm, civil and let my words do all the work because I have the ability to, while you have had to lean on ego and empty claims of intellectual superiority?
Only losers need to resort to that. Time to face reality.
Speaking of fallacies, I was actually pointing one out in my first post as a hasty generalization/anecdotal evidence. And I already stated that I’m not playing ad-hominem whack-a-mole with you. But if you’re going to keep making claims about me “losing the argument,” try to be specific and not commit fallacies yourself.

How can you point out a fallacy in a post when you literally said you read one sentence and dismissed the rest? Perhaps if you had read the rest of the very lengthy post (where he supports his position incredibly well), you would have surmised this himself inatead of automatically declaring it illogical. Also, you're basically resorting to a whataboutism here rather than admit or deny what I levied against you. Round and round we go.
The amount of points I am making against you that are going entirely ignored have been piling up quickly. That's what tells people you lost the argument.
You clearly lack most abilities teachers need to be good at their job. Stop acting insulted that people are treating you the same way you are treating them. Drop the narcissism and display a little decorum.
The fact you brought up how long I have been on this forum as if it had anything to do with my intellect or veracity of my arguments alone exposed you. You're disingenuous, narcissistic and disrespectful; that isn't going to net you humble, respectful and welcome responses.

I'm becoming more and more convinced you are just trolling.
Earlier in the thread you called someone's opinion worthless, and in the same post said, "stay classy." And you keep playing victim and claiming you are being attacked. Classic projection from a textbook narcissist.
The one resorting to the personal attacks is you. I'm just telling you exactly what the technical terms are that describe people such as yourself. Saying you are narcissistic and egotistical is merely an observation.
How would you suggest I say you are those things in a manner that is not a "personal attack?" Educate me.

If this forum even had a sub-par level of moderation, most threads wouldn't get to this point and guys like Bob would probably have been permanently banned by now due to constant trolling and vitriol, and you never would feel the need to make this post.

Let you know when I get to HOF on RS. My assessment will have nothing to do with whether I win or lose. Am I seeing laggy warping pitches? That will determine.

So I've been playing offline since release, grinding all the programs and what not. So during that time I always keep my opinion to myself, because we all know offline usually plays fine and you don't really run into the issues that could spoil your experience.
Today I've been playing the event all day long. And it started out okay I guess, some slugfests here and there and just getting my feet wet. Nothing out of the ordinary. But the more I played, the more recurring themes I encountered.
First and foremost, the amount of bloopies/flukies or whatever you wanna call them are simply ridiculous. I understand that it is a part of baseball and it is totally fine if they happen occasionally. But the volume of bad swings that get rewarded are just out of hand at this point. We all like hit variety and we all want contact hitters to be usable, but not if this is the trade off. And that's what I feel is happening here, these hits are a thing because of the complaints regarding lack of hit variety in the past in my opinion.
What I also noticed is that the game, once again, forces my perfectly executed pitches into the strike zone. This was a thing in 18 and it feels the exact same to me in that sense. I have given up staggering amounts of homeruns on offspeed pitches that I spotted almost in the dirt and executed perfectly, yet somehow ended up in the bottom of the strike zone. Why are perfectly executed pitches being punished? What's the point of mastering PPP, which was introduced to widen the skill gap mind you, if you're gonna reduce that skill gap once more by adding randomness to the pitching outcome?
Then I've noticed that contact hitting is broken. Again. Try it for yourself to have a laugh. I played 5 games in a row swinging with the contact button exclusively and I hit 430ft homeruns and got 110+ mph exit velocities all the same. We can no longer see our opponent's feedback, but I wouldn't be surprised if many of the players in this community do the exact same thing. Since it widens the timing windows, allows for more solid contact and still gives you the same exit velocities.. why would you ever normal swing or even power swing?
Then there is the overall performance of the game in terms of fluidity and choppiness. I play on PS5 on performance mode and I played in a handful of created stadiums and major league parks that once again induce frame drops and choppiness all around. As if I'm playing on my vanilla PS4 all over again. Try playing an online game at Target Field and you'll see what I mean.
Another thing that seriously irritated me is the amount of weak flyballs and even pop ups on swings where the ball is entirely in my buckshot, albeit in the top part of it. But that's what the game wants us to do, no? Lift the ball with power hitters? So that's what I'm aiming for and I get okay hits for weak pop ups. Again, this reminded me of MLBTS 18.
Last but not least (for now) is the amount of freeze offs STILL HAPPENING. Like how on earth can you not find the issues to this problem for all these years? I can't help but think that these people just don't care or have given up on this problem like "it's part of the game, get used to it". That's unacceptable and laughable in a sense.
I have tried my hardest to find some good things to say as well. I guess I do like the sound off the bat, especially during a perfect/perfect. I also like the fact that fielders have more urgency and you're able to gun a lot more people now with good throwing input. But that's about it.
I'm sorry, but the game is just not very good. Again. I hate that it gives me MLBTS 18 vibes, but that's really what it does. Hopefully the upcoming gameplay patch that has been confirmed will fix many of these issues. If not, I probably won't play very long.
Edit:
One thing I forgot to mention, the PCI anchor. This feature was brought because people wanted to be able to have a sensitivity slider for the PCI. This is not that! The feature is terrible because it is basically guess pitch lite. People can just sit in a certain part of the zone and take away a whole part of the plate. I noticed that some people do this and don't swing until the ball comes into that part of the zone. I don't see how this has anything to do with skill and I think it's a terrible feature that should be removed asap or should be barred from online play.Everything you mentioned is on point and there should be no rebuttals.

I'm sure. Some I don't mind. It was really bad last year. Why I stayed in All Star most of the year. Make WS and then lose out until I get back down. I'll stay up if the lag is minimal.

Then don't read and move along

️. Nobody cares how you feel about it. And before you come back with the snappy response that nobody cares about my write up either, you cared enough to come here and drop comments. Not as bad as Bob Loblaw or whatever his name is, he made it an obsession. But still, just move along man. No offense. -
Okay my dude

Thank lol, not sure if you're being sarcastic though because of how this thread turned out to be. If you are, like I said multiple times already it's totally fine for people to disagree.
No sarcasm here. I’ve noticed everything you’ve talked about and it’s annoying. Especially the high pop ups with good contact and the PPP accuracy this year.

Don’t forget 90% of runs online come from home runs

Crazy concept here but when I see a title and/or thread that doesn't interest me, I don't read it.

Question for you: Do you feel that these issues are intentional due to this being the first year for Switch? Meaning, do you feel that they dumbed down the gameplay for Switch players?
I've been playing MLBTS since inception and 18 hitting was horrendous after the 1st patch and the game never recovered. This year I decided to play on the Switch and the hitting and cpu fielding feels like 18 the ball feels like it was hit with a noodle bat there's no umph when you square it up or get close.
Now the cpu fielding in conquest and mini seasons is an absolute joke but when you hit a ball hard to a defender that has either bronze or common fielding the cpu turns into gold glove defenders. Too many bloop hits even on my part. It may take a little more getting used to it from my perspective because this is the first time I've played on a handheld since the Vita but it's starting to feel like 18.

So how is everyone enjoying the game so far?
Let you know when I get to HOF on RS. My assessment will have nothing to do with whether I win or lose. Am I seeing laggy warping pitches? That will determine.
Well, STL Cardinals and Chicago Cubs logos and team names are laggy games like 7 games out of 10 for me, I always pray to find people in NY or NJ… considering your location you probably see those guys a lot. I support your theory of servers and P2P, especially when you play people gaming in the basement via WiFi and the router is extremely far away.

The person being the most arrogant and argumentative here doesn't seem to have a fraction of the analytical prowess as the OP. Sheep in wolf's clothing who had to claim he knows more but can't begin to back it up.
May not agree on all points but overall a very robust and accurate analysis here.
