I'm new to DD and this is confusing...

I'm in All-Star and my roster is mostly low 80s gold players. I just lost 4-1 to a guy in Division Series with a diamond at every position plus 98 Newhouser. I had 81 Trevor Bauer, 72 Jose Alvarado, 76 Joakim Soria, and 75 John Brebbia on the mound.

Why am I even facing that opponent? And how did I lose 33 points in my rating?

95%+ of the time you will face guys will full diamond teams, doesn't matter what division you are in. Not talking about FotF diamonds either, credit card diamonds. I suggest you get credit card out like most or grind for those FotF and XP diamonds.

The mode is unplayable if I'm matched up against superstar teams. No way I'm buying players. Back to franchise I go...

The guy exaggerated, most people don't buy their teams, in fact i'd say it is a minority. Nothing wrong with doing that of course. For me, I didn't jump into ranked until my team was ready, I did stuff like events and player programs to get me diamond players.

As far as how rating works, it only factors in your "skill" I.E. the current rating you have, does not factor in teams at all.
