Just finished a Marlins MTO regular season

I am really enjoying the mode.
I got off to an amazing start. I ended up winning all of my challenges/moments in the first half.
I had an 11 game lead at the break and then the wheels came off.I was losing games. At first, it was the occasional blown save, but then it became a trend and the snowball got bigger and bigger.
My bullpen was bad, but I felt that my offense was worse.
So I pulled off the following trades (in order):- Tommy Pham
- Carlos Martinez
- Marcell Ozuna ( I chose him over Kirby Yates, and I will come to regret that decision)
My lead evaporated against a hard charging Mets team. I had a late 5 game lead, but all of the sudden my closer who was rock solid all year could not get anyone out.
I came into the last 3 game series against the Mets down one game.
I had to play an entire 9 inning game to tie for 1st place in the division.
I pitched Carlos Martinez against Thor. It was a low scoring nail bitter that I won 3-2. Division tied.
The next game is simmed and I lose, so I am down a game again.
Last day of the season, I needed to win to force game 163. Another low scoring game (all games for these Marlins is low scoring) but I pull off the win. Divison Tied!!! Here we go game 163!!!!!!It was Marcus Stroman against Yamamoto. I worked counts, drove up Stro's pitch count and I was able to make it to the 9th inning with a 5-2 lead (Ozuna hit an HR to make it 5-2) . My bullpen was spent from the previous day's game. So I put in my closer Kintzler with a solid 3 run lead.
I was able to get the 2 of the first 3 guys out.
And then the wheels came off. It was tragic and demoralizing to watch as a pitcher that was hitting his spots could no longer find the zone all of the sudden. A couple of 2 strike seeing eye singles later I was up 5-3 with men on 1st and 2nd.
The rest of my pen is garbage, so I had to go with Kintzler (Stanek was depleted) and then a perfectly placed double that somehow evades my entire infield. Tied game...talk about letting the air out of the ballon.I make it to the bottom of the 13th, I had a man on 1st & 3rd with 2 outs and Jonathan Villar up. I hit a line drive into the gap, but someway, somehow the CPU makes an amazing diving catch to extend the game.
At this point I am forced to go with my worst pitcher (Urena) and few seeing eye singles, an oppo blooper and a throwing error at the worst possible time it's 7-5, game over, division over.
I was deflated. But it was so much fun.
This mode has been a hit for me, a little time consuming close to 12 hours for the regular season. But keep in mind I had to play 3 full games (close to 4 if you count extra innings) at the end to bloat the numbers. In hindsight, maybe I should have traded for Yates.
I ended up winning 94 games and I will be hosting the Diamondbacks in the NL Wildcard game. Let's see what further heart attacks this mode has in store for me.

Buddy, I'm doing an MTO run w/the Padres right now trying to get that FOTF Tatis and yeah, after the all-star break my team has been absolute cold butts on a plate. So frustrating.
-
The time it takes to complete an MTO run definitely depends on the team and or the luck of the run. Starting the playoffs on my 3rd run currently. Yankees was an absolute breeze and maybe took me 9 hours total. Dodgere probably took me close to 11 because I had to play game 7 of the WS. Whole last month was simmed in the dodgers run though. As soon as you get the single season win record the remaining games are simmed. My current astros run has taken me forever though. Im right at the start of the playoffs and ive probably played 10 hours already. I have a little fewer wins than the Yanks and Dodgers did, but they gave me worse situations even when I was on a hot streak and way more user controlled moments. In short its hard to say how long an MTO run actually takes

LGM!! haha sounds like an exciting end.And how did you get to face Thor? Must have started the thing before the update that removed him from the mode
I had had played two seasons. The first one was similar to yours. Expect I ended up losing the division to the Nats by a good 5 games. I started off on fire. Was at a .700 winning %. going into the break. But once the level jumped up (playing on dynamic) I couldn't keep pace with the Nats. And my second season I stayed atop the division the whole time. Faced the Cubs in the NLDS. Lost game one by a couple runs. Game 2 I came back in the top of the 9th and took a one run lead. But then bottom of 9th with a runner on 1st and 1 out, a ground ball was dropped by my SS. Then with runners on 1st and 2nd, They hit a simple fly ball to the outfield by some weird animation happened, my LF missed the catch, couldn't pick up the ball and 2 runs scored.
It's a fun mode. Needs some things fixed. Like I wanted to bring D Smith up from the minors, yet never given the option. I'd like to see some full games thrown in here. I hate how I can go from hot to cold because of one failed challenged. Or if you have an explosive game, it just gives you normal results. For example I put 10 runs up against the Phillies in extra innings. I got no extra fire boost. And as I said before, really needs to be multiple seasons.

Trades are comically lopsided. I'm doing a Braves run and got Bryson Stott for Hechavaria, Corey Dickerson for some literal who players, and then Marcus Semien for Charlie Culberson and scrap
I've gotten yelich twice now for 3 minor leaguers! on my Twins and Indians runs. Most times you get one of your target players offered to you for pennies. I love it.

I can't wait to get home and face the D-Backs in the wild card.
But my pen is either depleted or has guys that I simply do not trust (I am looking at you Urena & Kintzler)
So I am faced with the prospect of starting Carlos Martinez or Pablo Lopez.
I need 6 or 7 solid innings out of them.
This has been such a fun mode.
I wish I had a closer!!! -

MTO is pretty cool. Doesnt take too long and it is easy affinity points. I did the Astros on All Star and got 14 points, then another 14, then 6 then 12 then 18. That was an easy 64 points. Won like 126 games and swept the entire playoffs. I would do HOF level but i dont need the extra affinity points, and All Star is a lock so. To me the best way to complete these affinities.

I rushed home to play the game and what a game it was.
Carlos Martinez vs former Marlin Zach Gallen.
I was able to score in the bottom of the 1st. 1-0.
Escobar tied it with an upper tank shot and I thought "here we go again"
I was able to get a run in the second and then Ozuna busted it open with a 3 run shot in the 3rd.
From there it was smooth sailing for Carlos. He went 7 strong, scattering 4 hits with 4k's.
My pen gave one back in the top of the 8th, but I blew it open with 3 in my half of the 8th and closed out the game for a comfortable 8-2 win. Ozuna went 3-4 with 1 HR and 4 RBIs.
And my prize for winning that game is the LA Dodgers!!!
Let's see if my little fish are ready to swim in the big pond. -

I know Brian Anderson is one of the worst Team Affinity Cards. I just want to see my Marlins win something.
But the challenge of winning with one of the worst teams in MLB is what makes it fun. The Yanks, Dodgers and even the Angels or Rangers are easy compared to this.I did not pick up Yelich or Arenado in trades, I got dudes in trades that you can see their teams moving (Pham, Martinez and Ozuna)
Even after adding those 3 guys, my team was the 20th best team in the game (based on rankings)
#1 in speed and everything else was in the high 20's besides defense (18th best).
3 trades is simply not enough to make up for all of the team's deficiencies. And there lies the challenge. With ratings like that every game is a nail bitter if you play on at least All Star.
This mode has truly surprised me. -
Quick update.
I played the Dodgers in the NLDS.
I was super patient and took advantage of some solid starting pitching to Sweep the Dodgers !!!
I lead, trailed and started even (in that order).
Next up the Chicago CubsI have already scheduled Steve Bartman to throw out the first pitch in game 3.

Nice. And you get that automatic positive reinforcement with the affinity.

This mode has truly surprised me.Yes, I did MTO this weekend for first time as well with the Marlins....and It was a lot of fun!
I traded for Trey Mancini, Trevor Rosenthal and Andrelton Simmons...like you, player who were slightly more realistic about trading without giving up any of the prime marlins prospects.
Swept Phillies (NLDC) and Dodgers (LCS) and now in World Series facing indians and already at 61 Program points.
I will do this mode again for sure....ton of fun....

NLCS Update!!!!
Invoking the spirit of the 2003 Marlins, the miracle Marlins of 2020 took on the Chicago Cubs.
I easily won the first game 5-4 in 10 innings (started even)
Cruised in game 2 behind Pablo Lopez 5-0 (started up 2)Now comes game 3 in Miami.
It had all the makings of a typical Miami game. The place was sold out.
Steve Bartman threw out the 1st pitch.
I was trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the 9th and Kimbrel was dealing.
I have trouble with fastballs and he blew away my first 2 hitters. 2 outs and I was dejected. I decided to sell out on the high fastball.
I managed a late swing opposite field base hit by Corey Dickerson. There is hope.
Up stepped Brian Anderson and once again I was selling out on the high fast ball.
1st pitch breaking ball, dot - Strike 1
2nd pitch Fast ball on the edge, an absolute dot 0-2
I foul off 2 pitches and on the 5th pitch of the at bat Kimbrel throws a 99 mph fastball.
PLAKATA !!!! Anderson deposits the ball into the Budweiser stands in left center field. TIED GAME !!!
I have never been more pumped playing this game as I was in that moment.
the whole presentation of MTO only enhanced the moment.
I won the game on a Jorge Alfaro walk off blast in the 10th!!!
Game 4 was the clincher behind a complete game by Caleb Smith 2-0.The Marlins are going to the World Series!!!
Next up the 110 game winners with the best record in the MLB, the Minnesota Twins.
The small market World Series is on!!! -
