Diamond pitchers do tend to be trash, I’ve got maddux, glavin, Keller and Morton. Jesus Christ they make me wanna pull out my hair sometimes I swear

I do work with smoltz Maddux I love to see entering a ranked season game lol.
Smoltz is 100x better. For the pitcher that Maddux was this card does him no justice
Guys who don’t throw 98-100 in this game are basically useless. Sorry, it’s true.
You’re right, and unfortunately I didn’t know that when I got it at midnight on the pre launch. It sucks that the specialty type pitchers aren’t worth a darn.
Yep, that’s why I knew Mariano Rivera would be useless once this game. Sucks, but it’s true.
-
Weird, both Rivera and Maddux have been excellent for me.
-
When they do a prime or awards or SS Maddux, I'm sure it will be filthy. The control and BB/9 would be maxed out, with absolutely disgusting movement on his 2 seamer and change
-
Yeah to each their own I guess. Has been dominant for me and Im 15-0 ranked so far. Him and FotF Ohtani as my top guys
-
Maddux has been awesome for me too. I don't think any of my starters throw above 95 and I don't have an issue minimizing runs. Movement and location are more important to me.
-
It was easy to predict that Maddux/Glavine would be useless, just because of their pitch speeds. It’s probably the only thing this game can’t recreate online: the crafty Maddux, Moyer, Rueter, that Jays guy that threw 50% CH 3-4 years ago. Smoltz is useful-ish because of his FB, but that slider hangs A LOT.

This may be one of the worst diamond pitchers I’ve ever witnessed... holy smokes
Coming from a Braves fan, I cried when I sold him. He averaged lik 5 IP and minimum 3 hr allowed per start online for me.

Just wait until an signature or prime Maddux comes out. I dont know why everyone is worring about a card that is literally meant to start your silver teams the first week. Put it this way. The special edition 1/30 bob feller was HORRIBLE last year. His sig series was one of the best pitchers in the game. Once the braves big 3 have 99 versions they will be good. A good pitch selection is all you need in the upper tiers. Look at Sergio Romo for example from last year. These cards are easy to hit because of trash Per/9s, not because the dont have the velocity. People say that every single year that a pitcher needs velocity to be good online. That could not be farther from the truth. Also I fully expect pitching to be tweaked by the time the good versions of these cards release
-
I do pretty good with Maddux. Jury is still out on Smoltz, hit & miss. Haven't picked up Glavine yet.

Bit they do need it; this year hr/9 doesn’t affect H2H so games of Kershaw throwing everything down the pipe with little to no consequence won’t happen

He was still a top 3 pitcher after the HR/9 change. The reason people got rocked with him at the end of the year is because people faced him so many times it didn't matter. In 17 AND 18, where HR/9 didn't matter. The best non Knuckle ball pitchers were Orel Hershiser both games. Sure, flamethrowers are always the best pitchers early on, but thats usually because of lack of Sinker/cutter pitchers that are high rated and an extreme lack of high vision batters to use

That’s because the high sinker is a dirty pitch that plays tricks visually in this game. If you sit on it you can crush it. Either way you cut it, if you don’t have a gasser you can rely on to offset the other pitches, you are toast. Also, 17-18 didn’t have the secondary pitches spam penalty we have now, so you have to go back to that heater when it’s your first pitch. If it’s under 98+, it hurts.
I feel I have a good chance of winning most games, but if I see a Kopech or that Jays prospect, ugh...

I think the movement guys like Maddux and Rivera can work, but only if you're Pure Analog and excellent at it. I've just been learning that system, and when I have perfect input a lot of folks can't touch the stuff with good movement.
-
I like the anyone less than high 90s is useless statement, when one of the best pitchers the last 3 years is Hershiser and his 90-92 sinker/cutter

Im done trying to convince anyone otherwise. Once you get lineups with players with vision 100+ you need movement. When Romo was introduced last year people slammed me for saying he was going to be one of the best relievers in the game because he didn't have velocity. Would you look at that Sergio Romo was the best right handed reliever in the game and was an event reward that sold for 140k by the end of the year. Ryan was terrible last year after they started releasing better pitchers. Flamethrowers are always good early and are garbage by the end of the year
