Yeah wait why is this not a thing? Why wouldn't the game allow 120FPS if it is being released for next gen consoles that run optimally at 120 frames?

Edit: Did they make this comment on stream and explain why?

I explained above. PS5 isn't ready for 120 fps yet. They have very few games that even do it and most of those are cut down resolution. They have to implement variable refresh rate on their systems first. And suposebly it is coming soon.

I would not say that they run optimally at 120 frames. It depends on the game. If you want to run Switch level of graphics on the next gen then maybe they could pull it off.

Naughty Dog has been as good at programming graphics for the Playstation as any other dev and even their 120 FPS mode in the new Legacy of Thieves bundle is limited to 1080p and apparently still has frame drops.

PS5 has to implement VRR before this game can go to 120 FPS. Since there is no way it could deliver a constant 120 FPS VRR is a must. Hopefully later this year PS5 does this, so maybe by next year we could have a 120 FPS version.

My kids play fortnite at 120 on the ps5 and xbox x. Is that just a fortnite thing? I’m not super tech savvy when it comes to this stuff.

Edit- sorry I just read your above post. Makes sense.

Once again SDS show it is incompetent. Upgrades to match to october, caps oh how fun. Rinse and repeat, they are turning into EA. They need competition as does EA to make them fix this nightmare of a game

Locked at 120 Hz? LOL...not on this generation of consoles. If the show was on PC then MAYBE, but I doubt even that.

We don't know much of anything about the game yet. Patience.

Since they are advertising 60 fps was it running on 30 for the last Gen consoles? Pretty sure most last Gen consoles besides PS4 Pro and Xbox One x couldn’t hit 60 fps, so it must have been 30.

Does it really matter? If a game is fun I could care less about fps.

So many ppl missing out over little technical bs like this.

VRR is an update that is supposedly scheduled for early this year. So 120 fps will be a possibility next year

FPS is huge for performance, however 60 is good with me. If it was still stuck at 30 I'd have issue too.

VRR won't magically make 120 FPS a possibility for all. Here is a description of what VRR does for those who don't know.

So what will the VRR and 1440p updates do, exactly? A variable refresh rate will essentially make your PS5 games smoother, given that they will adjust the refresh rate of your display to match the in-game frame rate. If the refresh rate of a display is not synchronized to your console’s frame rate, screen tearing can occur — you’ll notice the image “sticking” in places, causing an uneven image. VRR removes this issue by having your display and console work meet one another, so if your frame rate dips in-game, your display will match it.

So not only does the console need to implement it. You need a TV/Monitor that supports 120hz and also has VRR implemented. Those TVs currently are not cheap.

And then the game has to be programmed for 120 fps. So PS5 implementing VRR is a step in the right direction but is not the answer to 120fps by itself.

    Yes exactly

What's VRR. Y'all need to spell it out for the non-nerds.

Given the state of the servers, the game will probably only clock out at 20 FPS when you play someone on their dorm internet/TV.

I don’t see that happening until they stop making the game for PS4 and Xbox one.

Variable Refresh Rate. It is the key to getting smooth frames with no screen tearing and artifacts out of place. If your FPS isnt locked at a certain number then you will get all kinds of lines (screen tears) and some objects can look out of place anytime the frames drop.

PS5 has yet to support VRR so that is why so many games are locked at 60FPS. And the ones that go to 120FPS are lower resolution/graphic games that can maintain 120FPS. Because if they dont you will see the results of no active VRR.

Well I did post a paragraph about it like 3 posts above yours.

And let me reiterate that Variable Refresh Rate, even when enabled on the PS5 means nothing if your display device (TV/Monitor) also supports it, which most do not yet.
