Should I sell Trea
-
I don't get why people want to sell the best card in the game.
-
Trea Turner is the most fun player in baseball according to statistics (see video linked below). I think the same applies to his Finest Card in this game. Dude plays stellar defence at 2nd base (gets to those pesky balls up the middle that my pitchers never stop), has the same sweet swing as always but now with better stats, and he FLIES. He's incredible.

Haven't seen you post much before but you definitely know your stuff based on the last few posts I've read. Great link and solid point.

Lmao that vid pretty much boils down to “good hitter with speed = the most fun”
It’s just based on the statistics he chose to use, which is fine, but it’s still entirely subjective. Personally, I’d consider seasons like Chris Davis’ 2013 or Harper’s 2015 (even his 2021) to be more “fun”, because I couldn’t care less about a guy being fast or stealing bases (which statistically aren’t that valuable anyways). I understand why speed or stolen bases would be a big part of the “most fun players”, but they wouldn’t be a big part of my formula. I totally agree that the card is incredible though.

I think it’s fun to hear what other people’s favourite seasons were. I mean I was just a kid during Bonds 2001-2004 monster seasons, but he wasn’t a speedster and man was it exciting to see/hear about what he was doing. Dude could smash a ball out at ANY moment. I don’t think Trea Turner brings that same TYPE of excitement.
For me this year Shohei and Vlad were like must watch TV whenever they had an at bat. Trea (who should get the opportunity to steal more often) wasn’t quite that, but a lot of fun watching his highlights because he’s so dang fast. I think it translates different on TV vs Live.
Now to your point I kept above, I think they need to value stolen bases more. With no runners on base isn’t it just as valuable (if not potentially more because of the distraction to the pitcher and need to shift differently for the fielders) to hit a single and steal second as it is to hit a double? I feel like it’s more likely for the batter to get a good pitch to hit/ be walked with a runner like Trea on first than he is without Trea on first. As exciting as extreme raw power is (and historically that’s been the case, we don’t talk about Rickey Henderson and Lou Brock nearly as much as we do Bonds and Aaron and Ruth) I think speed is a lot of fun and brings a lot more intrigue to the game than just a bunch of big heavy hitters. How could we better account for the value of a stolen base? Should they be included in total base count?

Thanks @Ericulous1_PSN. I haven’t got too much into posting on the forums before (there’s been a handful of times I’ve just come to complain in all honesty) but I figure it’s a lot of fun reading other peoples opinions on the game and cards since I don’t have friends to play/talk about it with IRL. (I do have friends, just not baseball enthusiast/gamer friends).

Yes, you should sell him. And that suggestion has nothing to do with the fact that I am only a few orders away from getting him based on my calculations. Do not sell him, while I don't have the card, his 98 played well. Can't imagine this card not playing even better which much better fielding stats.

I don’t think Trea is the most exciting or best player in baseball but he is an incredible ball player and in this game he’s almost unbeatable. As for the stolen base comment. I don’t really care about stolen bases as fun or not. I do care about getting my player in better scoring position and taking away the double play option for the opposing team. Also go Chris Davis! Go Orioles. Lol

Just got trea in the event and I'm debating on if I should sell him and use the stubs to complete the collection for griffey,
I already have all star trea and he rakes for me so I think the finest turner might only be marginally bettershould I keep trea or sell him and get griffey?
Sell him! I put in an order to get him, so selling him brings me up one place in the queue.
It’s possible—even likely—that his price will decrease eventually, and you can buy him back for a lower price than what you sold him for once you’re done with the Griffey collection.

If only Trea's Finest card was any other team than the Dodgers, I would be putting in a bid for him. Sounds like he is really good BUT I am a die hard Giants fan and with that I can't do it. LOL

You sell Trae now and you’ll never get him again unless you get lucky with a rewind pack. My guess is the rewind packs will be tiered with a base pack and an elite pack from here on out. But it’s your call.

I saw there were 2 rewind packs in the reward path. For the record, I don't play events, so are you saying that these packs are not true choice packs, they give you a few players to choose from similar to the RIB program?

You usually get to pick from like one of 5 players I think.

If you sell him you may never get that card back so I am not selling mine
-
I love events , my Trea turned into Trout

You’re totally allowed to think whatever you want about the value of stealing bases, but statistically they just aren’t that valuable. Modern statistics have shown that stealing a base just isn’t worth the risk of getting caught stealing and losing a baserunner. With how many homeruns are being hit, what base a guy is on doesn’t really matter that much anymore. A runner on 1B may as well already be in scoring position with how the game is now, so risking losing that baserunner just isn’t a necessary risk to take in the vast majority of situations.

That is correct but there are a whole bunch more choices though so the odds of those elite cards is much lower than with RIB
