Rights to players

First year player so not entirely sure how sds operates. Twins fan (unfortunately) and I’m curious why there aren’t guys like mauer, morneau, and Santana. All guys that in their prime were arguably the best at their positions. Is there a certain amount of time needed once they retire before they become a legend or how does that work?
-
I think it’s actually the opposite. As long as a player is part of the MLBPA and it seems for a small amount of years after they retire, anyone who has a licensing deal with the MLBPA can use the name and likeness of those players. After that time, it seems like you need the direct consent of the player themselves. So there are some greats who have never been in the game, probably because they keep saying no (like Sandy Koufax or Randy Johnson). Plus SDS can probably only spend to get the rights to so many players each year, so it rotates. Players like Mauer were in before (and were great, the 99 Mauer was one of my favorite catchers) so hopefully they bring some of them back again before too long.

grace - a good and likely accurate answer. I WANT, and will likely never get, a 1995 Albert Bell card. It would be awesome. Mo Vaughn who?
-
Belle was in MLB 18, and then got tossed the next year for DUI/indecent exposure.

Mauer will be back sooner or later. Its not like he isn't on good terms with SDS, he was the cover boy twice. Just a matter of when really. I would like to see those other guys too, I raked with Morneau in 17. Santana would be fun to have but unfortunately he wouldn't play too well in this game
-
While I dont understand the true logistics behind getting these players in this game, it's such a tease that there are so many good names in this game yet SOO many that are not. There is a small part of me that thinks it's strategic by SDS to keep people coming back, but I know there is a whole ton of legal stuff that goes into all of this. I really hope they are able to get some of the bigger names I see on these boards in the game in the coming years....IMO it's kind of boring to see player programs be the same lame guys that we rarely will ever use (Alan Trammel cough cough)
-
There’s probably a certain truth to that (you wouldn’t want to release Hank, Rocket,DiMaggio,UNIT, Pedro, Bonds, Manny ALL in one year. You’d want to space them out to all for multiple years of new additions.)
-
I'm just glad we got Twitch this year, even though his highest card is only a 94.
(Hint hint SDS, if there's a new batch of RIB cards on the way).

Back in my day you got Joe random and Reggie Stocker and you liked it!

Left handed Greg Maddux.

Is that why they dumped him? He had a horrible swing from what I remember. Him and Darrin Erstad…..one year only cards.

So Exactly like Glavine and Lee that no one uses. That's my point. Not a knock on Johan but soft tossers are just not ever good in this game

Ok I'll bite....who is Twitch? I'm only familiar with the app.

Yeah, like Dragon said, soft tossers are rarely used effectively.
I think they’ve tried to make them more usable in H2H but the pitch speeds are so ridiculous that any contrast to that is just too easy to adjust to.
I almost recommend using a flamethrower as an opener for two innings, then bring a finesse arm, but even then you’d be lucky to get four innings out of him before the adjustment is made.
It just isn’t worth it.

Jose canseco!

Joe Nathan. He had a nervous tick where he would twitch his head to the side
