Including the incoming TA5s (but NOT including parallels) I count 166 99s.

Last year (not counting prestige) we had 151.

    2019:86
    2018: only 22!

Seeing those numbers, I am certainly wrong on it being close to last year factoring in prestige/parallels. I think all 98s and a number of 97s and below could be upgraded to 99 via parallel this year.

What are peoples opinion on the parallel mechanic? Did it give cards a chance to be more competitive and add diversity, or is it more like something to grind for?

This is sad. And ridiculous. We're now not even in fantasy land; we're in cartoon hell.

I've posted before about how the ramping towards 99's needs to be way slower throughout the season. Inning Bosses shouldn't be 99's until the late innings.

    Yuck.

I agree with your point. Here’s the issue though. Baseball season runs April-October (ish). Many want to play with fun and competitive players early while the baseball juices are flowing. Many of the die heads are still playing now and many will come back and dabble over holiday vacations, but it’s not quite the same. Especially with all the other sports out now. So if you wait until September and on for 99’s, many won’t get the fun of having some juiced cards to use.

I think the parallel system worked great. You can pick players you liked in season around 93-95 and progress them to where they felt like beasts. Then you supplement with the 99’s that come out.

I’ll say the only gripe I had was having some of those players get a 98-99 released just as I finished paralleling the lower card. But nothing you can do about that. Just start grinding the new card.

I like the parallel system, but its more something to grind for than anything. The only attribute a + 5 makes an extreme difference in is fielding. Say a 115 vs 110 contact attribute doesn't do all that much IMO. Its still really fun though. Especially for the bragging rights of a 1/1

Yep. Makes sense. Just unfortunate that that's how things are. I'm not sure it would impact people if the slowed the roll, though -- but I get how they wouldn't want to risk it.

This is my opinion on the mechanic as well. I think it did a great job of giving players something to grind for with every card. I dont think it necessarily helped boosting diversity very much. Overall I think it's a terrific addition, just not for the reason many people thought it would be when it was unveiled.

Yeah, 2018 was notorious for its grind-heavy, stingy programs. That Montrero XBH mission though!! I wasn't able to unlock any of the immortals because of it. I was new to DD that year anyway
