Here are my 2 cents. As a math teacher, this analogy makes sense to me. Hopefully others will understand where I'm coming from.
Student 1 - Gets A's in Math mostly due to their talent/natural ability.
Gamer 1 - Gets the best cards through talent (mostly).
These are your WS and 12-0 Flawless players.Student 2 - Gets A's in Math mostly due to their strong work ethic. Studies, asks teacher for help, consistent homework completion etc.
Gamer 2 - Gets the best cards through grinding.
These are your 30-40 wins in RS, grinding BR program, or working the market players.Student 3 - Gets Ds/Fs in Math since they have little natural ability AND no work ethic.
Gamer 3 - Not very good at the game and not willing to put in the grind.
There's no "participation trophy" here. That would be giving all students As in Math and all gamers (even the lazy ones) all the best cards for virtually nothing.
You forgot Student/Gamer 4, who just buys their way through school/to the best cards

Oh yeah totally. I honestly forgot the players who fork over hundreds of real dollars to buy stubs.
I guess that is a flaw in the system. Rich kids without talent or work ethic still getting the best rewards.
But that's life unfortunately.

Every card in the game should be on the market with the sole exception being collection rewards imo
-
Players can get these cards on the market but it still not be good with them. So it really doesn't matter. You can either earn the card for free, or flip the market to get it. Both can be challenging.

Most people here probably do not play MMOs but with that said this is the world of things now. FFXI online was a grind, it could take you years to max out a job and then to get the best gear was really hard. Only a few people on the whole server might have it. Then people started complaining that it wasn't fair. So they started making games like WoW and FFXIV where you can max out a job in just weeks and everyone can get some of the best gear with relative ease. I miss the grinds, I miss feeling rewarded in games for doing something others can't. I will never go 12-0 here, I think the closest I ever came was 6-0 before first loss and made it to 9 wins before eliminated. I will never make WS either. I have made Championship levels a few times but it barely was in the level and then I would come crashing down. Last year I was 2 games away once but that was it.
I think giving them access to cards free but not exclusive is the way to go in my opinion. Let them sell it for 2 million stubs. It doesnt even have to be the best card but a really good one that can only be had through WS/BR/Market.

The current world series rewards are 400k and Arenado/ Bellinger/ Arrieta are 500k. If a kid spent 300 dollars to buy those cards with his mom's credit card he won't be playing this game much longer. Now I do think the BR program should be a bit more difficult, but anyone who suffers through 30(40 at the beginning of the year) Ranked wins in a month deserves the card just as much as anyone good enough to make world series
No they don't, not by any means. So you won 30 or 40 games; doesn't mean jack. Only ws winners deserve to be given a ws reward; the rest need to pony up stubs or cash.
I would rather have it how it this year than having 30 million stubs from working the market last year and physically not being able to purchase 40 cards. The only other solution would be to remove the stub cap, which i expect would see more outrage than the people that agree with this post. Also I believe you are an offline player correct? even if you tank for easy wins, 30 ranked wins is still a miserable experience
Why did you wait so long. I am an offline player, but still owned every card for the last five years. I just happen to believe that a ws or br reward should mean something.
Could not agree more. This participation trophy world we live in is ridiculous and disappointing
When did I say I wanted a participation trophy? I just want to be able to purchase cards with the stubs I earned on the market, the programs did that. Last year was the only year where there were million stub cards with 2 month wait lists. The prices of online rewards are almost exactly in line with what they were in 19. No one was complaining that cards weren't exclusive enough then. I would venture a guess that the BR program more than tripled the percentage of players that actually play the mode. Earlier in the year I would be a higher percentage of players played RS too. I'm not sure why more players playing a mode would be a bad thing

I would actually agree with most of this. I did not play BR or RS much at all last year due to knowing I am not really good enough to get the really nice rewards. I still don't have to have the best reward but its nice to know now I can work up to some really good cards while not being the absolute best.

WS player get two WS cards instead of One. I am an avg player and getting to the 40 wins in the first season took about 75 games and I did not do it again because it takes up to much time in one mode, I just buy the cards off the Market. For the avg player it is not easy to get the 40 and now 30 wins.

The only player cards with waitlists currently are old inning henchman and that [censored] for the angels. Not desired cards. Gehrig and Wagner were only a million for a week

It’s a [censored] video game. Let people play with who they want to play with. SDS actually has this right. Appeal to the masses. They’d be dumb not to
-
This has to be one of the weirdest (worst, even) takes I’ve seen on here

They have ranking points and stats. I do wish that they tracked batting averages by game mode. You can tell me right away when you are playing a dude that plays a lot of events and has inflated batting averages.
-
Uuuuhhhh guys if you win 40 games in RS there’s a high likelihood that you’ll make WS unless you are a seriously terrible player. Just playing slightly above .500 ball you’ll accumulate enough points to make 900.

You all have to admit that every single person having the same exact cards is making this game completely boring.
But I thought the whole point of having so many 99 cards was diversity?
