Why is it not possible to go to college for 1 to 4 years and still be able to pick your team? Am I the only one who doesn't want to be 18 and going straight into Triple A?

After you get drafted, you can accept or choose to wait a year. Are you not getting that option? I often decline if it's for a team I don't want to play for.

I have never gone the college route. Granted I did get drafted by the Tigers, but got lucky to be traded to the Red Sox with only Pedroia to compete with. Probably had something to do with me refusing to "try out" third base because I've been down that route, and I always seem to stay whatever they make me play. I did still get it as a secondary position, which is nice.

You can choose the team you want to play on. When you get done with the showcase you are on the phone with your HS coach and he asks if there is certain team you want to play for. Just respond that there is then you will be asked to pick your team.

I think what the author is saying is why can’t we pick our team after we go the college route? After the initial scout day/games you are given the option to pick your team you’d like to play for. However, if you go to college for a year (or 4) you are no longer given the option to pick your team and are at the mercy of the draft. I like starting my career at 22 years old. I would like the ability to pick my team at any time!
