I don't see anything about this on the forum. I never hear a streamer mention repertoire and speed pregame, but as an offline player, I have to know what pitches a pitcher throws, and what speeds so I don't over swing for guys like Ryu, Sean Manea, etc.
Or are some of you so good that you just go up to bat and figure it out?
Of course, you can pause to check or press R2, which I heard is a bad button online, lol.
Carlos Delgado used to keep a book on pitchers, but I don't want to do that for a videogame, but I find myself repeating what a pitcher throws to remind myself.
    Example: If a pitcher has a 4fb, Ch, Curve & 2fb, I repeat '4, Change, Curve, 2.'
Anyone do this? It may seem weird, but that's how I prepare.

Most people look for three things: outlier, sinker or cutter

Pitchers that have one of more of those are the meta this year but honestly, there are so many viable pitchers to use this year with PPP and the faster pitch speeds

I have to say Yes it is vital for me. Guys with 3 pitch repertoires are too predictable for me and I personally don't have confidence to use them because of that.

If you play a lot online, then all the meta repertoires are basically engrained in your head. Like deGrom and Verlander for example, most people could tell you their pitches (and often their speeds) off the top of their head.

Its the first thing I look at. Then H/9, then Outlier.

Sorry but without the three meta pitches, most of the pitchers are worthless. That’s why you will face degrom, verlander, arreita, leiter, Felix, and a few others

I’m a weird guy, I never do well with metta players... I’m awful with training wheels turner, mike trout. I get lit up with Degrom... But give me Aj Burnett, Hal Newhouser and Xander Bogaerts and I can win games.

Yeah. Pitch repertoire is a huge part of pitching. Most hitters can hit a pitch if you keep throwing the same thing. Sit fastball or sit breaking ball and eventually you’ll have luck. A guy like Al Leiter who mixes speed, location and break type is hard to hit because of the uncertainty and incredible break. Not saying he’s the best pitcher in the game but he’s up there and has the best pitch mix IMO.

I don’t necessarily need all my pitchers to have a sinker, cutter combo; but I do care about their repertoire. Of course I do care that their per 9’s are not too low, and outlier doesn’t matter much to me. I like a couple relievers with outlier to keep them honest if I am using someone like Maddux though.

Sinker/Cutter still is a big part of meta but I believe you can add sliders to that list as well.

I was actually asking from an offensive POV, but I learned some pitching things from the responses, even though I'm good at pitching.
And I have to get the Leiter card now. Met him twice in his Mets days.

    Great question!
Starters have to have 5 pitches for me, and 4 for relievers.

Yes and it matters to most people. How many times have you faced 99 POTM Robbie Ray in RS? Zero for me and I'm certain that's the most common answer.
