Boom, Roasted!

100% agree with you. I have said it before and I got roasted as well. I would love a mode that is not BR and not Events, but that a player had access to their entire collection. They just had limitations on how the team was built...and not something like average 90 or 95. Something like position players are limited to four cards 96+, four cards 90-95 and the remainder can be anything sub 90. Then similar for pitching...one 96+ starter, two 90-95 and the other two sub 90. Then similar for the bullpen.
I would enjoy this because my team would be more fun to create, you would see very different teams every time you played someone and the teams would more mimic a baseball team. However, I was roasted and I see that at least on this forum the masses just want to load up 99's and roll. I also know that SDS would not favor things like this because it would not promote stub spending. The current system leads everyone to want bigger and better and this leads to stubs flying for new 99's each and every day. And just like @Mereel13_PSN said, I would favor this as a salary capped mode or something...not a replacement for the current RS. I don't blame people for wanting to go straight 99s....I just like the strategy involved in something different.

My friend and I were talking about the idea of roster limitations in RS today. I’d like to hear some more opinions on it but we both agreed it would be fun and interesting. I’m not talking about the way they do events with only switch hitters or only a certain series but an overall cap on the team rating. I think it would make utilizing the bench much more important than it is at this point and add lots of variety to RS
I see where you're going with your post and I've thought the same from time to time. I wonder if we could have a few options:
- No roster cap at all and game continues as is now with god squad vs god squad, etc.
- You have certain "spots" you have to fill. For example the following:
a. must use 2 rookie cards in starting squad
b. must use 2 veteran cards in starting squad
c. bullpen, only a closer card could be plugged into a closer role. So, you'd have to decide if you want 99 Mariano Rivera as your closer or 99 Goose, etc. - you have the option when starting a RS game to either go god squad or a roster limitation vs roster limitation and it would match you up accordingly to what your opponent chooses
- and, of course a DH vs DH option
Those are my thoughts. Interesting post, thanks for allowing me to partake.

Fixing stamina will help more than anything else imho.
Other than that where I get where you are coming from by making a cap...what will end up happening is everyone will find out the best endgame capped squad and you will still see the same players on every team. I would like to see more of a cap on the type of cards you can use. So maybe 2 awards cards, 2 milestone cards, 2 prime, and so on. That way you really have to pick and choose your team.
-
I would love to see an online mode with 9 inning games where you have a cap to work with, not an overall team rating that can be circumvented. So you'd have say, a cap of 2000 going by the rating on the card. So if you want to stack your lineup with 99s you have to take a hit somewhere else with commons and bronze. Maybe you have 2 or 3 high diamond relievers, but tgecrest of your bullpen is bronze and silvers.
It'll never happen, but I'd love to see it.

Maybe give position players a stamina meter? That could help force everyone to use more players.

I agree that being able to use any team you want is an appealing idea, but every year it’s the same story
Game drops-“gameplay is the best it’s ever been”
99’s come out-“gameplay is garbage”
I am of the opinion god squads are what ruin gameplay and I do believe roster restrictions would create variety. With the way the game is now, there is no reason to not play a 5 tool player at every position, there is no reason not to have 5 aces and a bullpen full of closers. This would hopefully bring value to the utility style playersThis is a great take; particularly interesting that you think god squads are what ruin gameplay.
While I've played this game from The Show since it came out, I'd never played DD until last year. I'd played against friends in the early years, then switched to online with the Play Now mode, and I just logged hundreds upon hundreds of hours through the years playing as the then-current roster of the A's. My point is that until I started playing DD, my experience had been that the gameplay was pretty well close enough to simulated baseball. I think playing with flawed players allows real baseball things to happen, and getting this game to behave like real baseball with these juiced up, cartoon character attributes is no enviable task. While they can still be fun, I would rather not pitch and lose so many 15-20K games with 4 hits allowed, all solo home runs, on pitches low and out of the zone (yes, that is hyperbole).
Personally, I'd love to see god squad play limited to something like Extra Innings, by adding a head-to-head option where you can choose your own difficulty and queue against others' god squads. For Ranked, I'd love to see a strict cap in the form of roster restrictions, like, for the team: one 99 player, no more than 3 players higher than 95, no more than 5 between 90 and 94, and so on... you'd have to decide if you favor pitching, power, etc., and build accordingly. Better baseball would result.
I understand that BR lets you draft with a build in mind, but drafting a transient group from a limited pool to play out together potentially only a handful of three-inning games is not the same as building a team through grinding or buying or however you choose and carrying that team through multiple seasons.

You said it better

All of these ideas are good. Ranked needs a major overhaul for 22.
Ranked is fine just the way it is. It's the only on-line mode that lets you put together the team you've spent so much time building. Don't like it, go play events.
Last year played over 600 ranked games. This year, 72. It just isn’t that fun this year.

I've always wanted a separate RS with strictly LS elidgible players.
