So I'm wondering what this means for DD going forward. I'm assuming they are okay this year, but next year and beyond? I liked the old-school cards they used in game.

Well of SDS has the deal with Topps we will see unlicensed cards. If its strictly with the MLB and its PA you'll no longer see Topps at all, but Fanatics instead.

I can't imagine that it will have a major impact. They will have to drop the Topps now branding on Moments and may have to come up with their own card art for those cards. Or maybe it will be as simple as rebranding them with the name of the new card company name.

But old prime and all star and veteran cards, etc, presumably won’t be able to use the real card art? That’s a bummer. But the good news is that SDS typically kills it with original card art (face of the franchise excluded imo)

Yeah, but with new owners and brand, that deal probably ends. One thing I love about DD is pulling cards I had growing up from the 80s and going "I had that card!". Hopefully they get to keep that style of card.

Every article ive read says the mlbpa deal starts in 2023 and the mlb deal starts in 2026.
the current deal with topps expires in 2025.
mlb might want to, but unless both sides agree a contract just cant be ended, and i dont see topps giving it up.
