not for noting i was playing hardball 6 (PC) online in 99. Back then there was no cheese your were psyched to be playing another human as opposed to the CPU. THEN out of nowhere the "whatever it takes to win" slowly entered online games and was a complete turn off to people that wanted to compete legitimate. Now unless you play custom leagues w people you know, u deal w toxcitity. Is what it is (isnt that the latest saying??)
EDIT: wow website is still up 22 years later!!!......http://redozone.com/hardball.html

"meant for online". DD has had vs cpu and vs ppl content in every year of its existence, and as the years have gone by it has gotten more friendly to the vs cpu only crowd. This debate has raged for a long time now and players have said this onljne purpose, but i never recall a dev saying anything one way or another, and recently they have been saying play how you want.which would seem to indicate that it is meant for both(and always has been)
Exactly this. SDS will be fully aware or the player base who play online or offline and will adjust accordingly.
I do wonder though if they make more money from online as opposed to offline with stubs purchases though. I’d probably lean towards online as the competitive edge.

What did we do in pre-2000 or so, when online gaming wasnt a thing.
We played Strat-O-Matic, and we LIKED IT.

I don't generally have a problem with people that play offline. Play how you want to play, for the most part. The problem lies with the showdown hate club that thinks they deserve special treatment for the FOD program despite online players being forced to play offline for every program Except FOD.
-
Online is as little fun for me as offline is for you. Pretty simple.

The fun for me is the nostalgia of card collecting and satisfying my need to accomplish missions.
This exactly for me as well. I chose to play online to get Clemente, but it's not my preference. I enjoy mission based content and the collecting of cards especially players I loved like Piazza.
As a man who has passed the mid-way point in life, I really don't feel like dealing with kids using all the exploits they see on youtube to win instead of playing the game the way it was meant to be played.

Who on earth said DD was meant to be online? lol
Online is full of pay to win cheesers and I'd rather not have to worry about if I'm going to get a decent opponent.
As someone else stated, for me my time is limited with having a full time job, wife, and two kids. Not to mention God forbid I may actually want to play another game occasionally. It takes most of my gaming time to keep up with all the offline content so I have absolutely no reason to subject myself to all the complaints people have about online opponents.

People who play online and hate offline content.

First year player and someone who has gone from playing more offline to online. My preference lately has been Events and BR and I am so bored with moments I can't see straight. However, my interest in Events and BR has grown mainly because there are very few offline options. (For the record...I am in favor of more options offline and online). I would love some form of an offline season mode where you basically play "Extra Innings" games in a season format. Something like that would probably keep my attention more than anything...even without rewards of any sort. DD is not just offline and not just online in my opinion...so I try to make the best out of what is available. Basically just saying I get the people who want to play offline and I could see myself being happy as a straight offline player if there were more options. I just feel my time is better spent with BR or Events in the current system.
-
I played a lot online last year but mostly offline this year. Sometimes I just don't want to deal with humans. Depends on my tolerance of selfish jerks at any given time.

This thread is surprisingly civil with well thought out responses.
I think SDS has done an exceptional job of swatting away the bots that are infecting other games and forcing their developers to drastically cut down on rewards for offline play. MUT this year has basically given the proverbial finger to all but the fat wallet whales, by making the offline grind impossible.
-
I think DD is meant to force people to do both. It's not an offline or online format...it's both. I guess you could technically finish an Inning program by grinding out RS/BR/Event games but I don't know if you would have enough time to get 650,000 on just online games. You also have to put in time for collections, moments, showdown, conquest and so on. Same with offline, they are forcing you to take some part in the online content by stopping you at 98 in a program instead of letting you get to 100. SDS is trying to make DD their hybrid option for the game.
-
dd myteam all of these type of modes are not and online or offline mode they are a card collection mode with the option to use the cards you have to play a game and to many people have forgot that because someone on you tube told them how to use someone fake jucied up aa player to exploit the game
-
Not sure the purpose of these posts. Why does the way other people want to play the game bother people? I play online and offline both but I can completely get why someone would want to play DD exclusively offline.
Some people like a mode where they can collect cards to better build their team, without having to play people online.
People may not want to play online because:
A) they aren't as skilled and dont have the time to become skilled
B) don't have the best stable internet connection to play games
C) Don't have the best monitor to deal with input lag
Plus it's clear this the mode SDS focuses on the most as oppose to something like franchise or road to the show.So yeah I am all for people that play DD offline only. I wish there was more content for them though besides doing the USA conquest over and over
-
As a mostly offline player, I actually feel like there's plenty of content. I'm sure I would feel differently if I had time to play every day, but the amount of stuff to do is just about perfect for keeping myself entertained on the weekends.

I seen a lot of posts of "oh I only play offline, and how can this program be done offline..."
I just don't get this concept. DD is meant to be online. I don't play RS often but do dive into BR and def a lot of Events.
If you are playing offline, what's the fun? to get a better team to beat the same missions, conquest or vs CPU all over again???
I'm just not understanding playing ONLY offline and never wanting to play vs people even if it can be toxic players online ie bunt dances pausing etc. For the most part the players you face online play fair and it's really not hard to get some wins in an event or stats to complete the programs.
Agreed, only playing offline is just wimpy. Like sitting down to pee
-
I mainly play offline. Have only played about 15 ranked games so far. But there is quite a bit offline content. I just feel there isn't a great deal of opportunity as I'd like to play with my "Main Squad" that I work hard to get. Most things are moments, programs, showdowns etc. Even TAs you usually end up loading a specific squad to use to get stats to complete that isn't your main team. There is conquest but you're basically relegated to repeating the repeatable one or USA map since any new ones are knocked out relatively quickly. And besides paralleling, playing vs the cpu over and over does get a bit boring. But overall, I enjoy the offline content. And for people that don't live on the game there is plenty to do.

It’s not wimpy. There are reasons for why people choose to play only offline. I don’t have time that I can dedicate to play a game without interruptions. I use a TV with bad input lag so I don’t feel like getting destroyed every game because I’m going to be spammed fastballs knowing I can’t keep up. Also, I don’t care to play against other people. I play video games to relax and not have to deal with cheesers that use every exploit possible.

That's because offline players are generally the more mature gamers. The twitch generation tends to play online with each other. See:
