Give Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks some love already! MLB leader in wins and he gets a downgrade!?
-
Look at his stats since middle may , worthy of upgrading not downgrading . If you knew anything about his season , he has been absolutely solid since then

Because you are claiming the opposite I could say you are saying that a SP that gives up 8 ER and wins did his job. That is ridiculous. But I am not gonna say that because its stupid.
....but I didn't write that anywhere.
Here is what you wrote...
"Also has a 4.66 FIP and a 1.275 WHIP. The worst he has ever had. Pitchers dont win games."
You edited your comment to add "teams do'...
Ok, and that was before anyone responded, whats your point?
Andwer this and we can be done....
Who won the games for the Cubs when they shutout the Cardinals on 81 pitches with Kyle Hendricks on the mound?
I'll wait...
For argument's sake, they still had to score runs. Now if he had shut them out and hit a solo dinger then yes he and he alone won the game.

Also has a 4.66 FIP and a 1.275 WHIP. The worst he has ever had. Pitchers dont win games. Teams do. There is no attribute that looks at pitchers W/L. A pitcher with a 5-15 record and a 2.25 ERA is a WAY better pitcher than a pitcher with a 15-5 record and a 3.50 ERA (ask deGrom in years past).
Also I think Hendricks leads the league in the most hits given up. Thats not a good thing.
"Pitcher's don't win games".......LOL
Nope! They put themselves in position to win if they pitch well, but you can pitch your [censored] off and still lose.
Yeap, You can throw a no hitter and lose.

Someone had to score to give him and the Cubs the W, I am sure the defense made some plays. The team won that game, the pitcher of record gets the win.

Your rationale is old school thinking. It's what got Bob Welch a Cy Young award in 1990 instead of Roger Clemens. Welch won because he led the league in wins with a 27-6 record. Clemens was 21-6, but had a 10.4 WAR vs 2.9 for Welch. Clemens roasted him in every category except for wins. It means the Rocket was a MUCH better pitcher than Bob Welch that season, even though the CY voting didnt reflect that.
They also did not use WAR back then

Time for my favourite Bill Murray quote:
“It's hard to win an argument with a smart person, but it's [censored] near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person.”
Maybe its just fanboi talk. And given what happened to the Cubs this week, Ill forgive him lol. I went through that with my Rockets recently.
You wrote something stupid and I pointed it out. Simple as that. Don't over analyze this one
Does'nt the team have score at least 1 run and play defense so the pitcher gets credited the W, but in the standings it does not list all the pitchers records it list the teams Record. So who wins the games? Not that hard to understand.

edit for purpose of not realizing that was 5 pages ago. My bad

Literally the only way you can say a pitcher won the game entirely themselves is if they hit a solo hr, and strikeout all 27 in a perfect game. Even then you can potentially credit the catcher for not dropping any third strikes and potentially calling a good game
As for your example Rizzo hit a hr with 3rbis. One can easily say he won it because that's what gave them the lead and allowed Hendriks to finish the game with a comfortable lead

True, but they had all the other stats. ERA, WHIP, Ks, H/9, K/9, HR allowed, BB, CG, SO, and every category went to Clemens.

Hendricks is not that good imo. Wins mean nothing anymore. Also, lets say hypothetically he got upgraded 3 points even, would anyone use him? No.

I agree with you, They only really looked at W, ERA and K's maybe CG OR IP. I do think being a a winning team back then matter.

This entire thread is filled with people dug in on one side or the other, unwilling to concede anything (e.g., "Wins mean nothing anymore").
Try this: "True, I'll give you that. However, ..."
Then this thread can die the death it so richly deserves.

dont worry he wont be leading the league in wins for long with that skeleton crew of a lineup the cubs have now
