It's always funny how many of the "cancel culture" "don't erase history" people clearly never payed any attention in history class.
I paid attention.....if you forget history you are doomed to repeat it. To try to remove mention of the past, whether good or bad, serves no purpose. It can allow the past, again whether good or bad, a chance to repeat because no lessons or taught and no visible memories remain. When will some understand you can not make a society perfect nor a past different.
How will anyone know who Nathan Bedford Forrest is without a statue?
Who?

Confederate general and KKK douche.
And I’d guess they would have to read a book, watch a documentary (not Forrest Gump), go to a museum, or take a history class.

Guardians? Guardians of what, exactly? I feel like there's a better name they could use... oh, that's right! Cleveland Indians!
I'm not even an Indians fan and it sucks. Now I have to deal with this PC name every time my Tigers play them—being in the same division, it will be all the time.
I despise it when long history is just thrown out the window because it doesn't conform to today's standards. It's like saying that George Washington was a terrible leader because he didn't practice good dental hygiene. It is unfair to judge the past that way. I understand the discontinuation of the Chief Wahoo logo (pardon my usage of the term, I'm just saying it to be specific and clear), but this name change feels like stripping the Indians of their storied legacy. Feels like they're a brand new team with nothing to their name now.
I think one of the problems with the name itself is that we weren't even calling them what they were. They're not Indians, they're native americans.
Natives imo would of been a better name for the team, but I know they don't want to represent a group of people.Believe it or not all words are made up. They probably called them that because when they got over here and asked they didn’t know they were Native Americans until somebody told them they were. They probably didn’t even know they lived in America tbh with the low level education system they had.
It takes “low level education” on a bigger scale to say something that contradicts your own argument in the same breath. This statement was beyond stupid
I am still trying to figure out who told them that they were native americans, maybe it was the master of genocide, Topher Columbus.

If you think about it, anyone can be offended by any name. The Indians isn’t that far off from Yankees if you think about it (Civil War).
What’s next, someone will be offended by the Blue Jays cause one broke their bird feeder? We’re at that point.
How about the White Sox? I’m offended! Found a hole in one of mine…

I know you think you're being clever, but comparing people being offended over a type of bird or sock to a group of historically oppressed people who were killed in mass ... is not clever.

Oh I know I’m exaggerating but the point is that everything is magnified now and borders on the ridiculous

Are they going to go back and digitially change the logos and names on the jerseys in Major League? Voice over any mention of "Indians" in the movie? Yikes!

I know it was uncalled for. My main argument was the Yankees one. You’ll never see them change their name

No. Because it's a movie from 1989 and not a baseball team playing in the present.
You guys are making my day with these terrible attempts at humor. It's like they're so unfunny that they're funny.

I am part Native American or "Indian", there was nothing wrong with the name Cleveland Indians, i thought it celebrated our heritage and was good for our people but unfortunately the cancel culture has come hard after our heritage and wants no recognition of Native Americans
-
Cleveland "G" "U" "AR" indians.
-
@MottledAxe86_PSN
You are free to not be offended by it but does that negate all the Native American people who are and have protested the name for years? -

1-Doubtful.
2-You’re not.
3-Prove it.
4-1/16 doesn’t count.
5-So what? The opinion of one person doesn’t say anything about the opinions of an entire group. -
I wish this thread would get cancelled. Post likely will. Everyone has an opinion, great. No ones opinion will change over night. Things take time. If this is progression for Cleveland then go ahead.
As far as the name, meh... not a fan of it.

It will. Rest assured.
I enjoy counting the sheep coming in here and crying “cancel culture,” though. Predictable, but still enjoyable.
