Do I Really Need 99 Ohtani?
-
I'm still a few cards away, and play Offline. I'm saving up for Trout to finish the collection and don't want to spend to get the cards needed to get Ohtani.
I have his MA card to P3 and rake with him. I definitely don't need any more SP's or Outfielders so would you say forget about the 99 version? -
Only reason right now is many believe he will be needed for some other big collection. While I’m certain they will release more packs to help keep the overall cost down, but the prices aren’t going to drop too low. So, TLDR, not really unless you are worried about another collection.
-
If you’re only playing offline there’s certainly no need

Why would that be? You believe offline players do not do collections? He will almost certainly be part of a future collection.

The prices will absolutely drop low. There were times when the 42 series cards for Jackie were 90k and there were times they were 10k. With these cards being higher overall they might not drop as much, but when the avuna program was released the hrd and allstar cards were cut in half.

That is what I am doing. Holding onto the cards I have and waiting for the prices to plummet for the 3 that I still need. The Otani card is not very good (imo), so no rush to get him.

I'm torn here too. If I was confident that more hrd/as packs would drop before the big collection I'd easily sell all the cards I have in place.
I bought the cards at their floors when the packs dropped...its a pretty serious profit

Ya for me too. It a tough choice because if I sold the cards now at high price I too would make a killing on the market.
-
I think I might just sell them and then hope that either their prices crash enough to buy them back later, or that Otani is not absolutely necessary for a collection. Jackie was in a collection that you could finish without having him.

I've always found Sunday evening is the time to unload and I did really well on my investments and just have enough for the collection now. They were up slightly last night from Sunday (after coming down mid week).
I think I'm going to enjoy 98 Realmoto and Alonso over the weekend 1st. If there's a surprise flash sale or something tomorrow then that changes everything, especially in the low/mid tiers.
-
I don’t think you will NEED him for the collection, but that will mean you need everything else most likely. So depends. I have everything else for the most part so I’m not in a rush for Ohtani either.
-
Looks like a steal buying those packs for 30K now.
Pulled mid twice and base 3 times for ASG
Pulled one rare, one mid and 3 base for HRDMid AS card going for 100K now and base HRD cards going for 30K

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how tremendously they failed with another ohtani card lol. No one is dying to get this collection done, but if they handled this card correctly it would be the best card in the game for the entire year. The fact that they didn't make it to where 99 ohtani can play the field every day, as well as start on the Mound every 5 games is laughable.
Edit. All year the argument was, "just because ohtani is lighting it up at the plate doesn't mean his SP card should be a diamond, when he has been just a mediocre pitcher"
What's sds do? 99 SP lol

You can bring him into the OF off the bench when he's not starting. He is fun playing with, as it's nice to be able to hit with a SP through the 6th or 7th to both save bullpen arms and not worry about "wasting key ABs". Also - compared to what it took to get 99 Rivera, he isn't that expensive. However, I would agree that there are many better "pure SP's", and he will likely get lit up at higher levels of RS.
-
Like every other pack they will eventually release them as rewards making the prices much lower for the players. If you are ok with waiting it will save you a lot of stubs.

He doesn’t have OF as a secondary. So is he considered OOP in the OF?

There's no need to have any specific card. A good team is needed to compete.
-
FWIW, I am 3 cards away and I am not going out of my way to buy any. I know packs will drop and I still I have a base round and mid round available in the HRD pack and a mid round in the ASG one so I dont see the need to spend stubs just to get him sooner. It will happen on its own
