You can't base things off of 1 covid chartered season and this year. Go look at the numbers I posted that was 2 years ago. He is the top player, you can try to argue but you are wrong. The only person up there with him is deGrom and if Ohtani does this for a few years he will probably be higher than both of then.You've missed my point of DD overrating him this year. We are talking about current diamond upgrades and Trout has not been top 5 in ANY batting statistic since 2019. Even the games he's played in the last 2 years he has not been top 5 in anything. How can you be this years top 5 superstar when you are not the top 5 in any statistic in 3 years???? Give the superstar LS cards to players who are on the field this year. IMO a true superstar is durable and plays at least 90% of his career games.... Trout is not that anyways... the most valuable players in baseball need to play to be valuable to their teams.

Saying this, I do think they are trying to transition from trout. I mean they upgraded both tatis(he is to high in my opinion) and acuna(my opinion should be the gatekeeper until tatis or vlad jr take over) to right below trout even tho both have been better than him in the last 2 years for sure. Now the other issue is will they sale like trout? idk because again trout is a sabermetrics guy which appeals to the media more than numbers or pure talent.

As far as being a better hitter, he isn't necessarily a better hitter. He doesn' have to be the better hitter to be the better player. He adds more with speed and defense and is close enough in hitting to be a better player. Heck trout isn't the best hitter either. People like jd martinez and juan soto are better hitters than trout but not better players. No one is hating on trout but he isn't the best player. Again sabermetrics guys love him.

Anyone trying to hate on Trout is ridiculous. Yes there are young players coming up right now that are going to be superstars but none of them have Trouts track record yet. Too many people are basing things off of 1 or 2 years. Bet most of you would've cut Peyton Manning after his rookie year in the NFL too

Trout has had one year in the last 5 where he could be considered the best hitter and that was 2019. Every other year, he was an average great player. He got walked a lot which helps with his sabermetric numbers but JD was a better hitter from 2017 to 2020 overall. Juan is the best pure hitter in the game right now. He has everything in his swing. Yeah i know he isn't the analytics like trout but he is a better pure hitter than trout. He isn't a better player than trout.
Trout isn't special about reading balls either. Acuna's speed makes up the difference and having a way better arm puts him above him. Hitting wise, he most certainly is close to trout. He isn't better, but his speed brings a completely different thing to the table that trout doesn't have anymore. His power and the fact he hits relatively close to trout in terms of BA then he is most certainly is close to him.

No people are looking at the last 5 years. People overrate trout like he is as good as mantle. He isn't. He is still a top 5 player in the league but he isn't the best or at the very least, it's a debatable topic. My whole thing is how the game keeps his stats up for gatekeeping purposes and not based on actual performances.

Without doing any digging or looking at stats at all, Trout won an MVP in 2019 and finished 5th in 2020... so I would say the "Trout is overrated" take is probably wrong here.

He also averaged .255 vs lefties since 2017 which is longer than 3 years but has what 92 contact vs lefties? why? because he is the gatekeeper and his name. Acuna hits .265 to .275 vs righties but only gets a 72 to 75 contact rating. That is my whole point when it comes to the game. I could list way more examples but acuna is the one who probably has the best argument for the next gatekeeper.

I don't disagree that Tatis and Acuna are coming up on that status but they aren't on his career level yet. You can say what you want but Trout has been a top player his whole career. I feel like I'm arguing with Skip Bayless or Stephen A Smith here. -

According to what your definition of overrated is. It is an arguable point that isn't the best player in the league. No one is arguing he isn't a great player. People are also arguing whether his live series cards actually reflect his numbers or do they inflate them for gatekeeping purposes.

Between 2020 and 2021 he's only had about 80 at bats against lefties so you can't just zero in on those numbers -
