I don't understand why people hate the fact that SDS tries to level the playing field in gameplay making sure to keep every game close, but then everyone hates when SDS creates a skill gap when acquiring cards. Like do you want a skill gap or no? Make up your mind people!

Most people who complain about the showdowns claim that they're rigged (not me, but that seems to be the general consensus). They believe the difficulties are higher than they say they are and that the game scripts towards your failure. For that reason I don't think people are open for the argument of skill gap.

Yeah I don't think "skill gap" and showdown have anything to do with each other. You can just as easily pay for FOTF cards. I believe the argument is directed towards online gameplay. Which after rereading your post. You answered your question in the first sentence.

The people who want a skill gap are talking about Online play, not offline play.

That said, My issue is that they have essentially created more All or Nothing modes, which is ironic considering that they made a big deal about the fact that they listened to fans and removed the All or Nothing aspect of March to October.

Showdowns and Player programs are All or Nothing when it comes to Program and Affinity points. You have to finish Showdown to earn points. You have to finish all the programs and, most likely, beat the CPU on all star to earn the Player program points. The only way to counter these all or nothing modes is to essentially spend your stubs to complete collections.

We will see how it goes but if they continue down this path all year then this may be one of those years where I retire the game before the end of April.
