More June Lightning Card Speculation

My guess is the next Ohtani is a Homerun Derby card, then probably won’t see another til his Finest.
-
Because he already had a player of the month card?
I don't want to see 12 different versions of Ohtani or Vlad Jr in the game. There are other worthy contenders this month that won't have many more chances at boosted cards. At this stage I might guess Schwarber since they did not give him a topps now card this past week. Correa or Olson could be worthy.

I wouldn’t count on it. He already had a low 90s POTM and he will most likely get a Finest. Unless they give him another POTM with pitcher primary, but I think they’re good on Ohtanis for now just because of the content that’s already been released.
It was actually an 89 Diamond in April. I think Cody Bellinger had a Lightning and a Finest two years ago, so it wouldn't be the first time its happened. SDS is trying to sell games heading into the AS Break.....a FREE beefed up two way player who is the hottest hitter in years on a pace to hit 60 bombs is probably a great way to do it.....
A lighting and a finest is not the same as being a in the POTM program twice. Other people had good months too, Ohtani will get his card eventually, it just won't be another POTM card.
-
Degrom would be who I hope for, no other cards than his LS and a solid 98 lightning card would be in the rotation all year
-
IMO no matter what DeGrom does, he wont get one until later on. It has to be Schwarber 100%.

The problem with DeGrom is how would his POTM card differ from his live series card, other than the fact that it would be easier and cheaper to acquire. SDS may not want devalue his live series card that way.
There are always other considerations beyond just who had a good month.
-
Highly doubt DeGrom. His LS would be better than any POTM card could be with his inside edge and quirks.
Schwarber is a lock. Whether he’s the lightning or mid tier is the question. He would have to be insanely juiced on both LH and RH contact/power to be able to hit upper 90s overall as the lightning.

Altuve or Correa

Schwarber is likley going to be a POTM, but I'm not sure it will be the Lightning. Have you looked at his number vs LHers this season? He's terrible with no power. He'd be a great platoon for sure, but that would be it.....

Yeah that’s why I’m not sold he’s the lightning. He fits more of Winker type card.
-
My money is on it being Matt Olson.
-
They won't give Ohtani another POTM already. @genopolanco_PSN I agree with you for him getting a HR Derby card or an All Star game card in general.
-
Cory Kluber has entered this discussion holding his Topps Now and POTM cards
Plus you all are sleeping on Broadcaster John Smoltz - he is easily the lightening in any month.
-
Jonathan schoop is having an amaxing June. He definitely deserves a card.

I mean don't they have to do whoever the MLB chooses for AL and NL MVP for the month? I was under the impression that's how it works.

No.

I would love to see a boosted up card of someone like Matt Olson than another Ohtani card.

Not even a little bit. It’s all up to SDS

I'm surprised there aren't more comments about Schwarber. He's batting .293 with a 1.151 OPS and 15 homers which I believe is the most ever in a single month in MLB history. Matt Olson is going off but I think Schwarber definitely deserves the lightning card.
-
Of the top 5 in WAR this month, Schwarber is the only from an NL team so he’ll probably be the lightning card or at worst the penultimate card. Correa is the MLB leader for the month so he’s an option as well for Lightning. Of the top 10 in WAR, I’m crossing off Vlad Jr, Mullins, Ohtani and Tatis for potential cards based on previous cards/ live series ratings.
On pitcher side of things, possible options for the SP cards are Luis Garcia and Sean Manaea. Of the RP cards, probably Brad Hand or Kimbrel get the nod.
