Perfect foul balls?
-
My no means is this a complaint post. I’d simply like to know your opinions on the matter of perfect foul balls. Do you like them? Are they are part of real baseball? Do you think perfect foul balls should occur more frequently, less frequently, or never at all? What’s your definition of perfect?

I think they are a part of real baseball, and I like them.
Should a pitcher execute perfectly a pitch down and in, out of the zone but enticing enough to coax a swing, that particular pitch in that spot can only be hit “perfectly” in one way; that contact would generate the highest possible exit velocity at the optimal trajectory resulting in the furthest travel, and that travel would end somewhere deep in the stands, having previously scorched past the pole on its foul side.
Maybe there are ways to hit that pitch out fair (probably not), but if so, the home run, limited by physics as we know it, would not be hit as hard and as far as the foul ball.
I actually hit my first perfect foul last week. A majestic shot at an important point that hooked about the equivalent of 20 feet wide of the pole to the foul side. I said, “huh.”
Then I went on with my life.

My take is that based off what the game says is that a perfect is perfect contact and perfect timing and if you have perfect then the ball should be fair in some capacity, not foul. If it's foul then your timing was obviously way to early or way too late and isn't "perfect".
I also hate seeing perfect swings that I make and it being a grounder or a liner straight to an OF, but then last night in the Braves game (which they lost...again...) I belive it was Riley or someone hit a ball that was like 114 mph off the bat...which is pretty dam perfect to come off that hot but it was a liner straight to the LF, it did everything it was supposed to but go further. So it's part of the game and is what it is, but a perfect shouldn't be a foul ball.

It’s not a part of baseball. You can hit the hell out of a ball foul but it’s usually because you’re early/late or not staying through the ball. A perfect swing should never result in a ground ball either lol

This is why the launch angle matters big time. If you don't have a high enough angle or too high an angle dramatically affects said trajectory.

There’s different perfect/perfects in this game. That’s why you have 3 dots on the pci.
Perfect/perfect fly ball (top dot)
Perfect/perfect liner (middle dot)
Perfect/perfect ground ball (bottom dot) -
Had one the other day. Inside pitch pulled foul down the line. Shrugged my shoulders and proceeded to play the game.
If it’s down the middle and perfect perfect foul then probably would wonder why it wasn’t at least fair.

So when I played baseball, if I was doing tee work, where I put the tee depended on the pitch location. If it's a middle pitch, I'm lining up the tee with the front of the plate or basically where my front foot is, if it's an inside pitch I'm placing the tee in front of the plate/in front of my front foot and if I was working on outside pitches the tee would be on the outside of the plate lined up with my belly button. These are what would be considered perfect timing for hitting those pitches as a hitter. I hope SDS would know that and set up PP swings based off of that. As long as SDS did that, then a perfectly timed swing with perfect contact on a pitch in the zone should never be foul, especially when you consider that there is no wind in DD.

I think they have timing windows for inside, middle, and outside because in the swing feedback the green zone is forward, middle, back I'm pretty sure. If it's possible to perfect/perfect a ball out of the zone (not sure if you can get the PCI that far in or out) then I could see how it would be possible to hit a P/P foul ball. The counterpoint is if it's P/P then it shouldn't be foul because you hit it perfect and foul isn't perfect. Not sure exactly how it all shakes out, but I don't think P/P foul balls occur with enough frequency to make that much difference. Like I said I had one the other day and that's the only one I've had all year. Just say "that kinda sucks" and move on.
