My qualms:
-
Michael Kopech didn't get changed at all? What does the guy have to do. He's been excellent. I'm not sure what they're waiting on. They need to look at his control and break in real-life. He needs almost a total overhaul and as one of the most promising young hurlers in the game, I expect SDS to give him the attention he deserves sooner rather than later.
-
A bit of an overreaction to lower Justin Turner and Kenta Maeda so much, no? I mean, prior to the last week or so, Turner was probably playing at an All-Star-level and the entire Twins team is struggling. It seems kind of odd to have Maeda go from being an 84 overall to start the year and now he's a 78 overall. His teammate, Tyler Duffey, (as much as I don't like the guy on the field) has also seen dramatic reductions to his attributes, too; and while he is unmistakably having a bad year, I don't think he deserved to be dropped to bronze after starting the season as a gold.
-
I haven't dug into this one too much, but I was surprised to see Kris Bryant just get a few slight tweaks and didn't go up or down in overall. His attributes started out well in terms of representing his game but I believe that he has taken it up a level and deserves to be around an 84 overall. I guess they just want to see a bit more.
-
The roster guys must dislike the White Sox because it's pretty odd that Lance Lynn, Yermin Mercedes and Yoan Moncada didn't receive the kind of update that their play has warranted. I can say this as someone who didn't invest in him (I was too late!) but what more does Lynn have to do? Give the man his diamond rating already and get outta here with the nickel and diming his BB/9 and HR/9 to keep it from happening. The same could be said for Moncada. The man has been unbelievable in real-life and is quietly staking a claim as the best third baseman in the American League. Put some respect on Yoan Moncada's name!
-
Okay, lets be real. I understand that Tatis is the cover-star, but how do they figure Trea Turner's fielding rating (67) is acceptable when Tatis is over here with an 85. Let me make myself perfectly clear, I love Fernando Tatis. He's my starting shortstop in this game. But if we're trying to have the attributes reflect real-life, then this one is inexcusable.
-
What does SDS have against Marcus Stroman? Every year his overall is much lower than it seems like it should be. Maybe there's some advanced statistic that justifies keeping him where he's at, but I've always thought he should be a few points higher. Mets fan have had it kind of rough this year, don't pile it on, SDS.
-
I feel like they did Kenley Jansen kind of dirty here. Yeah, his walks are way up but he has only allowed five hits through 21.2 innings pitched this year. Alex Reyes is another guy that probably deserves a bigger boost, too. There's quite a few relievers that I feel like should be given a look like Chad Green, Bryan Shaw, Caleb Baragar, Jordan Romano and Caleb Smith.
-
I guess I'm not done with the White Sox because somehow Dylan Cease went untouched in this update. I get that the cut-off is Tuesday or Wednesday, so his start yesterday against Baltimore didn't factor in but even before that stellar showing, Cease has deserved a good bump to his entire kit. I expect this one will be remedied in a big way in the next update.
Overall though, I have to say that I'm pretty happy with this update. I didn't get in on Castellanos or Posey but I killed it with Vlad Jr., Max Muncy, Adolis Garcia, Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, Carlos Rodon and Miguel Rojas.

Allow me to put on my tinfoil hat.... Its simple. Everyone has invested in Reyes. They don't want to boost his live series because then alot of people will have a ton of stubs. Same with yermin. Same with ohtani. Same with Lynn. Same with vladdy jr.
You will eventually have a diamond Reyes card if he keeps it up, but it will be a topps now or a potm card. And his live series will remain cheap.

Hmmm Vladdy went up to diamond, Ohtani won’t upgrade since he’s not pitching.
You think those that did go up weren’t invested in?
-
I don't think I have ever seen this many LS diamonds or this many 90+ LS cards.
-
Bryant, Lynn, and Ohtani are the most significant cards that deserve more love when it comes to the gold/diamond limbo.
Each of those three should at least be 86rs or 87rs.

You must mean a POTM line of cards for a diamond Reyes which should be doable based on his stats. But they def wont boost his LS that high. He isnt a Yankee, Dodger or Padre

Lets see
Lance Lynn - The upped his H/9 rating and lowered his K/9 and BB/9. Looking at the stats for the last three years his H/9 is at a career low which is good. His Strikeouts per 9 are down this this year and he is walking more per 9 this year. That said they have not touched his HR/9 at all this year and they probably should as it is quite a bit lower this year
Bryant is having a good season but he did not have a good one last year and those stats still are factored in to his ratings. That said in three updates this year he has jumped from an 80 to an 82 so he is trending in the right direction.
Ohtani - Is just a weird case. He has had upgrades and downgrades to his hitting stats but I saw nothing listed for his pitching and his card is considered a SP, right? This one probably requires more manual intervention
So Lynn seems to be the one with the most legitimate case since they have not touched his HR/9 stat and they probably should.
(these are these are the observations of someone who does not even own a single copy of any of these cards)
-
For those calling for Shohei Ohtani to get an upgrade, you have to understand how the rating system works:
- Since his primary position is Starting Pitcher, his hitting attributes do not affect his overall rating in any way.
- Therefore, his overall won't go up unless his set of pitching attributes deserve to go up; which he has only had seven starts and 36.1 innings of work so far.
- His numbers have been good on the pitching side, as he's sporting a 4.7 hits and 12.4 strikeouts per/9, but he's walking a ton of guys and has only pitched more than five innings in a start twice so far.
- So, with that said... that's the reason why Ohtani hasn't gotten an upgrade to diamond. Yes, his hitting numbers are incredible. But until SDS changes the way the game calculates overall, his hitting numbers will not matter when it comes to his actual overall. Keep this in mind!

I was hoping for Carson Kelly to get an upgrade.... oh well, on to the next set of investments

Were you around last year? The devs went crazy and gave just about anyone who was having an excellent season a 90+ overall.
I just went back and looked. There were 15 Live Series cards that were a 90 overall or above:
Mike Trout (95)
Jacob deGrom (94)
Mookie Betts (93)
Freddie Freeman (92)
Trevor Bauer (92)
Manny Machado (92)
Juan Soto (91)
Corey Seager (91)
Gerrit Cole (91)
Shane Bieber (91)
D.J. Lemahieu (91)
Trea Turner (90)
Jose Abreu (90)
Aaron Judge (90)
Justin Verlander (90) -

I had a feeling that with him just coming off an Injured-List stint that he wouldn't be included in this update.
I wouldn't worry though. With the way he has been producing, it's a matter of when, not if he will go gold. He is on an unbelievable pace to this point.
-
Don’t forget that with the offense being down and so many pitchers dominating, to get a significant upgrade at this position you have to be head and shoulders above the pack AND have good 19 and 20 seasons AND have been healthy the majority of that time

Justin Verlander (90)I do think last year was a little different because there was no baseball until ~August so most of the cards that were promoted to 90+ didn’t see much of a price increase since they were already near quick sale value.
