I don’t understand how my opponent is allowed to R2 after I select a pitch. At least five times a game it messes up pin point pitching, where my opponent presses it as I’m about to start the windup and releases it before I can let go.

Yep, now everyone is exploiting it online. RS isnt really enjoyable anymore between the R2 and bunt cheese.
