Take R2ing out of the game.

so based on my experience so far... the worst R2 offenders vs me seem to be xbox users

Bunt dancing was started b/c people were constantly throwing in dirt or out of zone. There was a year where you could hit anything with a bunt. So when people started constantly throwing out of zone people would bunt dance as a msg "Get pitches in zone or i'm bunting every pitch!" that is why it was started. So if you see people bunt dancing they are probabally saying get it close to zone.
I can’t say I can completely agree to your take on bunt dancing, but I can see your side being a thing in the lower levels of the game though. I’ve never seen someone bunt dance because the opponent wasn’t throwing strikes, because in upper divisions people won’t swing at them and take the walk, then easily mercy them if they continually throw balls. When bunt dancing became a thing the only time I would see people use it was when a key pitch was being thrown and they would use it to shade the analog input to try and get a mistake, this is the exact same thing many people will try and do with r2 as well. Also the bunt dancing issue is 90% YouTube and streamers faults for this becoming a thing. People watch their videos and see them get frustrated and annoyed when someone does this, Fuzzy is probably the most responsible for it becoming a thing, so people watch them get mad about it and they think it’s cute and funny to do it to their opponent cause they imagine them reacting this way.
The problem is with r2 is that there should not be a way where your opponent can affect your input in any way. That’s the biggest problem with r2. I posted just before the post you responded to about how simple fixes could address this. Eliminate r2, make what is displayed during r2 visible the the whole time cause it affects nothing visually to have that additional info, create a 2 second input freeze on the pitcher when he’s on the rubber before each pitch, this solves your quick pitching and quick pitching the the pitcher points, and never ever, EVER, bring back balks. The lag in the game would cause way to many balks to happen and would add 20+ minutes to a game.

I miss that guy last year that aggressively complained about eliminating that little practice swing you get once an AB by pressing X
-
I believe I accidentally messed up somebody in BR. I pressed R2 to check where I was being pitch in the current AB and the speed of the fastball and ended up hitting a sinker high and in for a homerun. If this person reads this post: I’m sorry dude if I screwed you. I didn’t mean to do it

The bunt dancing i was referring too was before divisione were even a thing. I've been to the higher levels before i am well aware. I don't know why people do it now. I've already said this.
I'm ok with having pitches displayed all the time if that is why they are are pressing R2. But niether side should be allowed to effect an input command period it's not just R2 that does it. This is the 4th or 5th time someone has brought up how R2 affects input, but not one of those arguements has acknowleged the fact that quick pitching does same thing to the batter.
I'm done with convo, if this is the direction people want to go with competitive then hell with it you guys can have the mode. I'm tired of watching MP go down the tube over last 5 or 6 years.
-
Who cares really, if I notice someone doing it, I just sit there until they finish before I throw, I can do it all game. Up to them if they wanna waste their time

I don’t understand how you seem so upset over my post I literally answered and came up with a fix for both sides in my response. If you got upset about me saying higher levels, I wasn’t saying you weren’t a good player but I guess that’s what got under your skin?
I answered why people do it now, because of YouTube and twitch and people seeing it get under people’s skin makes them want to do it to annoy their opponent.
I said no one should be able to affect another users input, that goes for both sides, which is why I responded to both issues of that with a fix, eliminate R2 and have the info displayed the whole time, and when the pitcher steps on the rubber (when pitching options open up) there is a 2 second freeze on pitching inputs, you won’t get quick pitched or not have the option to sub out your pitcher.
I came up with a fix for both sides, solved R2 and solved your issue with people quick pitching you. Your entire response was answered in the post you were responding to, so did you even bother to read it or skimmed through it, saw something you didn’t like and decided to go off and say your done with the mode, even though I had a solution to your problem?

I wasn't upset at you at all!
Just this topic and how they are not recognizing both issues only R2. Which leads me to believe the ones pushing so hard to remove it are probabally the Quick pitch spammers and with R2 out of the way they have a new way to cheese.

I thought that once the pitch was selected or meter started then they couldn’t press R2 anymore. My pitching has never been impacted by it. It tells you when they are pressing it. Just wait. Game may take a few minutes longer. Oh well.

Yeah, you're right, we should just let these trigger-fingers flick R2 constantly several times during an at-bat, nothing at all wrong with that at all, it's a lot of fun for everyone to wait until the spasming finger calms down. I'm definitely not pitching when that icon is flickering on and off because who knows what that will do to my pitch.

Serious question...is it okay to hold r2 at the beginning of every at bat to see how you were pitched in the previous at bat?
On this same topic, it is nice that you can see when the other player is holding r2. So, you can wait to start your pitch until they stop.
Except some do it as you wind up and if you use PPP, it screws up with your meter and you throw meatballs
First thing, once you begin the analog action for ppp, r2 can no longer be used. So instead of trying to pitch at turbo speed take your time between pitches. If someone is r2 spamming that’s the remedy.

Not true; if it’s used during the wind up/pitch specific movement of the sequence, the pull down part doesn’t respond and it’s either a ball in the backstop, a beanball or a fat one down the middle.

This ^^^^^! Once pitch is selected batter can no longer press R2 or R3 or step out of batter box or pause game with option button. Now do you understand how selecting pitch fast effects a batter? And you are the people against R2!
That is what quick pitch is not the slide step BS. You guys selecting pitch and making it where batter tools are not accessible! Good luck do the right thing SDS I'm out.
Edit Post to add: To all people that using "Pace of Play" as the excuse? I just played 9 inning vs CPU, i spammed R2 and pitched normal game went 11 innings. Guess how long game went? 40 mins Don't believe me search game history against Cubs and check game log! So 5 mins less than it calls for with extra innings so without extra innings probabally 30 mins. BS arguements!

stop making it sound like ervery1 who uses feature is spamming it.
Probably not but the feature itself is a spam device bearing zero relation to playing a game of baseball so there's no getting around that.
I've already agreed to that but so is quick pitching and nobody wants to acknowlege that. I have said if someone is quick pitching i'm gonna spam R2 only time i do it.
So what is the difference in the 2 arguements? Limit use of both istead of punishing 1 side by removing a feature when used correctly could be helpful and not doing anything about the other. That's where problem lies.
The difference in the two arguments is that 'quick-pitching' (which can mean a few different things in this context) isn't actually a problem the same way R2 even existing is a problem. By that I mean that a faster pace of pitching is something that actually happens in baseball and the batter has a few different ways of dealing with it. On the other hand, R2 is what...magic? I know we're talking about a virtual video game and it obviously isn't real but R2 is zero percent about playing baseball, and it's true purpose is obviously about affecting the pitcher in a way that can't be answered. Pressed several times during an at-bat, pressed when pitches are selected (which can't be undone). It's an egregiously one-sided, completely baseless-in-reality feature which 99.9% of frequent users abuse. There are other ways to display the information found when pressing R2, and probably more appropriate times in the gameplay for that information to be visible. You've admitted yourself that you spam the feature when you don't like the pace of play, so it's an abuse of a feature all the same, even if you feel justified because you don't like the pace. Certainly the two sides are not of equivalent standing because R2 is unrealistic and there is no answer back from the pitching side.
Quick pitching "IS" a problem if selecting pitch fast prevents people who are batting from using the tools that batters are given at thier disposal. Which is what quick pitching does. Plain and simple both are bad if spammed there is no in between. I don't understand how people can defend one and complain about other when both are a problem when spammed.
Speeding up pace of play is a "Cop Out" excuse. If you join a RS 9 inning you need to set aside 45 mins of your time b/c everyone knows that is the time frame to expect. If you want to play faster go play 3 inning modes. 9 inning games should feel like a game where people are allowed to use tools given, otherwise accomodate both sides of arguement and adjust R2 usage and Quick pitch usage..
I don't have a problem with time. I'm cool with playing at a good pace. I don't use R2 against opponents online and I don't pitch too quickly, but R2 gets used against me all the time. I could slow down, speed up, doesn't matter. It's just always being held down and I have to wait so I don't throw a meatball. I don't mind the waiting from a time POV as I have all the time in the world, but I sure don't want to throw a fat pitch if possible to avoid it. The real issue for me here isn't pace of play, rather it is that R2 is a fake spammy mechanic that actually can mess with gameplay. That's bad and needs to go. I don't really care if a small minority of players don't get to check pitch history every five seconds -- if that's what they're really using it for -- but sounds more like that's a surface excuse and the real reason is either to mess with the pitch or to just artificially slow things down in a way that would never be possible in a real game.
This here is why R2 is a problem. Folks are not doing it to [censored] off quick pitchers, they are doing it to fook up the timing on pinpoint pitching. Idc about quick pitching either way, but when its used as an exploit thats what the real problem is.

"batter tools" = bat and helmet, maybe gloves (unless you're Moises Alou).
I'm not currently using PPP but R2 has been held down against me after pitch selection so def an issue. Visible this year with the no-pitch flashing up, but evident in '20 as well. So I guess the "batter tools" argument is pretty much kaput, but we all know most people relentlessly clicking R2 aren't accessing their "batter tools."

No this is why "Spamming R2" is the problem not use of R2 in general and when it's properly used.

Quick pitch has been an issue for 4 or 5 years so no it's not kaput. I have said spamming R2 is wrong. But getting rid of R2 altogether is not the fix.
