My theory on difficulties in the game

It just occurred to me that the reason I am so puzzled about what the difference between the difficulties is that... there is none.
Aside from PCI size and pitch speed, they seem to be all the same.
All you have to do is face the mini-boss battle with Rob Dibble on “rookie” to see this in action.
Sure, there seems to be different slider settings from mode to mode, but I don’t think these have anything to do with rookie/veteran/HOF/legend.
Thoughts?
But the PCI size and pitch speed is what affects the difficulty, what else would you expect to change? (Ps. I’m not asking that sarcastically I am genuinely curious)

In previous versions of the game (prior to maybe 19) lower difficulties gave lots of pitches to hit. Getting walked by the ai was really rare. Now, you can see 5 out of 6 pitches out of the zone on veteran and tons of borderline pitches, pitches in the dirt... you didn’t need to work the count.
Same thing with the AI defense. It’s something I started to notice in 19, that has continued.

I’m just concerned that on rookie, you can get a perfect perfect roped to center, and the CF turns around, runs straight towards the warning track and makes an DIVING OVER THE HEAD catch. Nuts to me. Also, I’m pitching 0-2 count using pinpoint pitching, DOT a 12-6 CB inside bottom corner and the cpu hits an oppo HR.
Other games, like 2k on rookie, you could green and make almost every shot and the defense was easy to exploit and score on. When playing defense it was easy to steal the ball and make the CPU miss. -
I don't ever throw a curveball to the AI on rookie. They will not swing at one that just misses the bottom of the zone but if you dare to bring it up just 1/2 inch they smash it out. But just one of the AI players. The other 3 you will strike out.
Rookie is so bizarre. I think it's actually harder than veteran and maybe even pro, no pro in DD though. The AI pitchers on Rookie can pitch a ball you track for 3 minutes through the zone and swing and the game will say early and the pitch will be a foot off the plate when it finishes. I find it way easier to hit on All Star. Yeah when you square one up on Rookie it seems to go farther/faster but they throw so much junk at you it isn't fun.
DD and Moments have some wack-ness applied to the AI. If you play MTO on Beginner you either ground out/fly out/homer because the AI throws at the middle of the zone. Rookie in moments and DD will throw anywhere but the zone for 90% of the pitches they throw to you.

This makes me feel less crazy. I feel like I’ve done better on Vet/All-Star vs. Rookie.
I feel like even though I’m perfect/perfect or good contact, I barely hit/hr when squaring up the ball. Also the AI on Rookie never attacks the zone. It’s all in the dirt or way off the plate. Maybe All-Star and Vet are better.
Just my own observation at least.

Well, for pve games, smarter AI, Better pitching decisions, etc

Yeah I get that now, I’m a dafty.

I have to disagree with this. You get much more hot table pitches the further you go down. I started on rookie to get my dynamic difficulty dialed in perfectly. I have since settled in on all star plus. But when I was on rookie I was getting 2-3 meatballs an at bat

Showdown, Moments, Conquest and play vs CPU. Do each one in the same difficulty level and they'll play different. Each mode is tuned different because the game parameters are different. You're talking about everything from a single AB to a full 9 inning game.

Exactly.
And across the board, maybe not outside DD in exhibition or franchise but in MtO for sure, the AI defense is juiced!
I have seen insane plays of the year, if not decade, from the AI defense. Running up the wall to rob homeruns, swiss watch precision double plays, top-notch cannon arms to second or third from facing the wall position to picking the ball up, one smooth animation and no look laser to the fielders glove, diving catches in the outfield, split legs at first into the stretch to catch, running the wrong way throws back across perfectly to the 1B, every outfielder can pace the speed appropriately to the ball well hit into the outfield to turn it into an over the shoulder or no look style basket catch.
And then you will hit a sharp grounder to short and they won't get their glove down.
The AI is biploar but the majority of the time they are All-World legends on defense.
