Zone is so RNG this year so it doesn't really matter.

So is the vision stat basically meaningless if you are using zone hitting?

No, It’s not meaningless. The vision determines the size of the center of your pci. The contact rating determines the size of the outer part of the pci.

Not quite; the inner PCI is contact and vision; the outer PCI is straight vision.

I chase the ball out of the box and swing like an idiot when I use zone. I have so much focus on getting the PCI on the ball that I lose focus on timing and letting balls go.
I don't like directional at all.
With PA I just wait on good pitches and hope my player is better at putting the PCI on target than I am. Surprisingly I'm doing better with PA than anything else.

Just stick with it, that will get better with time, promise. I used to use PA, switching to zone has been a life saver. Fight through the early frustrations, you'll end up being much better very quickly. And, it's a lot more fun to use.

At first, pick an area that the pitcher seems to go to often, swing if it's there, otherwise hold off until two strikes. Eventually, you'll find the place you like to start the PCI, and you'll get better at moving it to pitches as you expand YOUR zone. You got this.

I'll try from time to time, but last night in RS I beat a guy 8 to 4 (maybe 5) and I hit 5 home runs with PA hitting.

RNG stands for random numbers generator, its more or less a programming algorithm. Youll find any setting or option you can use that depends on user input instead of cpu input is going to give you the best consistency.

Unless the computer is better at placing the PCI than you are! In that case you're foolish NOT to use it.

You have it backwards... Vision is that lightly shaded outer part, contact is the heavier shaded inner part.

OP... If you pause the game and go into help there is a manual in there that explains all of this, not many people realize it's there but it does a great job explaining everything

You’re in the right track, you were also mislead, contact is the middle PCI and vision is the outer, it can help foul off bad swings and help you not strike out. But getting better at hitting will have those start to disappear, and although it’s not meaningless, you won’t need to worry about it as much.

Trout is a great example, massive contact and mediocre vision, the target that matters is massive, and the one that isn’t as important is much smaller. You wouldn’t want to trade his contact for vision and have 110 vision, 60 contact.

No problem, when you get more comfortable you’ll have to find the balance you like, players with really good timing and accuracy can get away with someone like Gallo who has terrible contact and vision but massive power. Meaning the two things they can control are in there hands, but the power they don’t have control over is as high as possible. I prefer to try and find a balance and trade some power for contact. 80-90 contact and power is perfect balance IMO. Hit for average and for power. Corey Seager or Postseason Josh Donaldson are decent examples but honestly most cards fall into that category.

Zone especially if you can figure out how your opponent is pitching you and can sit on a pitch in that location.

Which one is better? Is it possible to use analog and be competitive or is zone hitting a must? New player here just curious and also wondering why if not...thank you

You can be "competitive" using Directional if that's what you want. Probably gonna be more difficult over all as there is more randomness involved but it can be and is done.
