Ghost on second?
-
So I'm playing a conquest game and it's scoreless, 4th inning. My relief pitcher, Drew Pomeranz just retired the side. My first batter comes up, top of the order, Byron Buxton. After one strike, I realize, Drew Pomeranz is a runner on second base. I go to the box score, and there is no record of a hit by Pomeranz. But there he is. On second. There are just no words.

It’s the new extra inning rule this year where the person that made the last out the prior inning is put on 2nd.
-
It's the MLB extra innings rule

No way!!!! Really? This is legit? I don't quite know how to feel about this. Feels kind of icky.

My goodness....

You know what’s icky? Playing a baseball game and not knowing some of the basic rules, granted, this is a newer one, but it was implemented a year ago and discussed thoroughly on every sports channel under the sun.

Idk. I just sort of feel like I should win without a boost. Just me I guess. Glad it shortens up the game though.

I haven't watched baseball in maybe a year or so. Hard to find a game with no cable.

I wouldn't call it a boost, because the other team starts their inning with a runner on second too.

Oh! I see. Ok thanks.

But if you score they have a runner at second and third, and have 4 outs to work with.

I haven’t had cable in over three years, I can watch plenty of games. There’s always a free game of the week on MLB.TV, ESPN games are free, YouTube broadcasts some games for free.
I subscribe to mlb and can watch any game I want (except local teams). If you’re a big enough fan to pay $60-100 for the game, then you should at least familiarize yourself with the basics of the game rules.

How are you able to watch anything on ESPN without a cable subscription? Also, where does YouTube broadcast games?

No, he was trashing the game thinking it was a glitch. I’m sure he’s also wondering why he can’t pull a reliever after facing one batter as well.
I get that there are new fans joining and that’s great, baseball needs the fans. But perhaps before throwing the game under the bus, research a little to familiarize yourself with some basic rules.

ESPN app, I just watched the Phils/Mets game the other night. Didn’t have to login or subscribe to anything.

Um. I'm very familiar with the rules of baseball, just not the current rule changes. I'm disabled and don't have a lot of cash to spend on whatever I want. This game is pretty much the only entertainment I can afford. The youtube games look doable though, thanks for bringing that to my attention, as well as the new rule changes. You taught me something new today and I appreciate it.

I'm not a new fan, and I was aware of the reliever rule. I thought it was a glitch because I simply didn't know about the new rule. But I do now. Lesson learned.
