"My Attention Has Been Drawn to Your Base Stealing Numbers. They're Not Good."
-
Tell me if you've read this line of dialogue before:
"<Player Name>, my attention has been drawn to your base stealing numbers. They're not good."
Well I have. Several times. In between every game, if I decide to go to the clubhouse to change my loadout instead of immediately progressing to the next game in the series, I'm treated to this same earful from the manager.
The baserunning in RTTS still sucks to me. I keep getting into situations where it appears that the ball will land, only for it to be caught or brought in quickly when I steal, in which case I'm out and I lose BR aggressiveness progress. I wisely started to knock it off since the game's circumstances kept swindling me, as that stuff infuriates me.
I also unequipped my speed perks and replaced them with contact and power perks so I could do better at the plate, which left me with low speed and steal attributes.
Yet the manager TELLS ME to steal bases when I'm on first in a double-play situation. I obey fearing I'll get chewed out if I don't, and I promptly get cut down by the catcher (I think the ump blows the call half of the time) because I'm too slow.
The same manager, in his infinite wisdom, blames ME after every game for my poor base stealing numbers.
"<Player Name>, my attention has been drawn to your base stealing numbers. They're not good." O RLY?
This better be fixed, because I'm not sure I can take the sheer lack of logic in RTTS. Has this happened to anyone else?

Base running kills me in this game. Even when I steal a base half the time I get a -steal when I take off for god knows why. And when you get a successful steal or dive back to base you should get + steal! Also maybe I don’t know the buttons well enough but I hate that you can’t see the 3rd base coach sometimes. Mt Steal and BR aggressive stats are still base 30 after a couple hundred games.

Yeah they patched the base stealing exploit last year after years of being able to steal at will. Seeing it’s a single player mode, I don’t know why they couldn’t let it be. I’m guessing base stealing objectives in Moments is the culprit.

You don’t have to steal when the manager says. He won’t chew you out. He will chew you out if you do it frequently and get caught. If you don’t have the speed archetype just don’t steal. You’ll get caught unless you have good speed.
-
Game lags sometimes too on pickoffs, frame drops on XBSX. I got picked off too much until I learned to just keep my left stick to return even when leading off. Now I never get picked.
-
Manager sends you in a terrible count, with slow speed... and you get caught, and it is your fault. This irks me beyond end. Like it sends me at the worst freaking times, and the catchers never make bad throws. I've stolen or tried to steal 60+ bases at this point, and the throw has never been offline - not once. Yet, when I throw to second, they are all over the place.

My speed is around 41 or so. Steal isn't much better. But the manager tells me to steal for some reason ¯l_(ツ)_/¯
Wish there was a, "But you told me to, sir." dialogue option.
-
Just ignore the manager if stealing is a stupid move.
-
I still get this even though I get the steal 80% of the time. I had three in one of the last games I played and still had it happen.
With the speed perk, lead off and time the pitcher decently it works the majority of the time.

What cracks me up is when I have a triple easy and run to third only to realize my teammate didn’t go in for the [censored] easy run!!! This has happened to me 3x maybe because of my speed but who knows.

I love it when you send a ball into he outfield that is obviously going to fall for a hit and the runner holds up at first, then they get the force at second and it registers as a fielders choice. Every time it happens I just think that if this was real baseball, my player would be going to jail.

You and me both. Baserunners without brains, I swear! facepalm! JUST GO HOME! They are the ones who should be out imo.

This entire thread just cracks me up.
First, that dialogue box (manager chews you out for being caught stealing) has been in the RTTS game for a long time - since about 2014. And it sucks. In some previous versions, if you kept stealing the next time you were caught you would be benched - regardless of whether or not the manage told you to steal!!! So, if you are a slow player and only stole when the manager told you to - eventually you would get the reprimand - and if you kept trying only when the manager told you to - eventually you would get benched for getting caught attempting to steal.
In the past, you could just ignore the manager's instructions to steal a base and that was basically the safe way to go. The batter at the plate would react to the incoming pitch normally. One of the things I've observed in my relatively short time playing 2021 is that the batter at the plate will not swing his bat if you have been instructed as the base runner to steal. Meaning if you don't steal, that dude is going to either strike out looking or eventually walk - every damned time. Because the manager, every pitch, will keep telling you to steal. Great freaking logic.

What's so annoying for me is that I'm now trying to avoid stealing as much as possible or getting into a pickle on the base paths. I suppose since I did that a lot before the manager is going to keep telling me this same spiel until my baserunning stats get better.
If SDS could fix the frequency of the baserunning sit-downs, that'd be great. The conversation is happening way too much.
