Dumb question but would also be dumb to buy the same software twice

when you buy a license for a piece of software, you dont buy 2 keys to use the software on your laptop and desktop, but thanks for your input

Ok, but realistically you are buying two different pieces of software here that run on two differnet systems. I get what you're trying to say but can you honestly see two competing companies say... Nah, it's ok. Don't buy ours because you bought it on another system ?

must be pretty earth shattering that you can play steam games on your windows PC and linux PCs amirite

    but i get it ... #capitalism ftw

edit - the appropriate way to handle this is to provide a 2nd key for the other 'system' at a significantly reduced price, to cover the 'overhead' that comes with compiling a codebase, and cover whatever cut sony/microsoft take

paying full price for the exact same codebase is genuinely idiotic and isn't a practice that people should feel is normal or acceptable... if you're buying a disc version, that's another story

It's not earth shattering at all..... But you're buying and playing the game through ONE hosted system right ?

I get what you are saying. I do.. And it would be nice if people did have multiple consoles. But it isn't anything they offer.

yeah, given that crossplay and digital downloads are certainly staples of modern gaming, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out

Not a dumb question at all. Portal 2 for PS3 came with the Steam version as well which meant we also got it for Mac and PC at the same time.

Nice - glad to hear the precedent is out there. IIRC that franchise is critically acclaimed too
