Stupid Question- Account Linking. Thoughts?

Just noticed this morning....
Been a forum and show player for years. Yo access TSN, I had to use my PS credentials. I get it that Xbox players need to migrate to a TSN account as well.
Now comes the issue.
There's PS, Xbox and Show account all separate.
Do PS players need to login or create a Show account?
Is this issue the one causing our missing market orders, stubs etc from going POOF? I think SDS might have turned this feature ON after or concurrently with the servers opening, and that caused our accounts to not sync, thus messing with stuff.
Does everyone have to link an account to a Show account now?

Now that you mention this, I had to create a whole new account after already having one.

From my understanding, a show account is only needed for cross progression for PS to Xbox. I haven't had any problems with missing stubs or anything of the sort, that seemed to be a market issue alone, which seems to be fixed(at least what causes the problem, not getting people their stubs back). What I do know is linking your account is what causes inventory and stubs to be completely wiped from your account and you have a fresh start. I will not be linking, as I only play on PS5 and there is no point to

This helps reinforce NOT creating and linking a show account as a standard straight up PS5 user. Thank you.
What I'm seeing now though, is that behind the scenes, the accounts weren't linked. Servers came online. We logged in and started doing stuff. Boom, account Linking gets turned on behind closed doors. Market orders under the unlinked account (behind the scenes mind you) no longer show.
Just my theory.
It's the reason why it is taking so long to rectify.

That's a very good possibility. I just wish the whole linking thing was explained a little more up front. I think a lot of players feel like account linking is a required thing to do and then all sorts of problems arise. It just needs to be straight forward that you only need to link accounts if you are playing on BOTH playstation and Xbox. if you are only playing on one console or only upgrading generations you absolutely do not need it

I’m so confused as to what we are “linking”...I’m a Ps5 user but also have the game downloaded on my PS4 in case the kids are playing ps5....so what is the need for linking accounts it’s all so vague to me?

Linking accounts is only to transfer progress between PS and Xbox

I specifically asked about this, and Collin said that more information was coming. I feel like Nostradamus here. A bit more disclosure on the process would have alleviated some of these struggles. I'm going to dig up that post now and give it a bump...
