What’s the point anyway? You can’t do anything with the contract money ... for years I’ve taken the minimum so the team could sign other good players ... why eat up the team’s budget for no reason?

Some people enjoy realism in sports games. To those people it's probably understandable to take a little bit less to help the team their signing with, but a top tier player taking rookie money destroys any semblance of realism.
