I've always wanted to play MLB The Show and I look forward to finally being able to play it (Diamond Dynasty) tomorrow at midnight! As a brand new player who has never played before, but very used to playing 2k's MyTeam, what are the best things I should do right away?

My goal is to somehow get Tatis Jr. and Bauer on day 1, I don't know if that's possible without buying stubs?

Beyond that, in doing some research, is it accurate that I'd probably get the most bang for the buck on day 1 doing TA, Showdown, Conquest, and maybe a little market trading?

I'd love to hear your thoughts, there are so many things to do that it's very confusing about what to do first and I don't want to waste time or make mistakes right out of the gate.

Conquest is good for rewards but time consuming and boring. If you can win your showdowns imo that’s one of the best places to spend your time early on. With some luck you could get both tatis and bauer day one..but when heading into RS remember live series guys not named trout aren’t usually your best option

Thank you, appreciate it! I've never played so I'm not sure if I'd win Showdowns yet. It would suck to spend stubs on it and lose.

Maybe I should just go all out for Trout?

You’re not going to get Trout day one unless you are extremely lucky & pull him....Unless you spend $200-$300 on stubs & just buy him.

Tamper your own expectations, if you pull a diamond that's great but it's unlikely. The Show is all about the grind also what has worked in th past may not be applicable once we get to the 20th.

When early access happens this weekend there is going to be aloy of sharks in the water as this is the hard-core player base so they will be trying to take advantage of EVERYTHING they can which they should that's what early access is about. Use these 4 days to get use to DD and how it works then come the 20th and the flood gates open its going to cause chaos in the market now that we know it's 1 market.

My number one tip for you is to not buy packs. You are much better off saving your stubs for a guaranteed diamond vs dropping 50,000 stubs on packs and ending up with none.

My opinion is to get settled in. It will be very overwhelming at first. Spend a little time looking over the game. See who the player program reward is. Take a look at which TA player you REALLY want and then take a look at what you have to do to earn points for that team. Stay in conquest at first and get a feel for which players you like to hit and pitch with while earning packs. Keep your cards for now and don’t get into the market yet. You have 350 days or so of this game so remember to be strategic, practice, and have fun! Welcome to the show and the community!

That’s awesome but that’s also extremely lucky. This guy is saying he’s not wanting to buy stubs. The chances of him pulling Trout in one of the pre-order packs is highly unlikely. Possible...But highly unlikely.

This is not a real expectation to have for any player. It awesome that happen and I hope I have that kind of luck but being realistic if every player pulled Trout day 1 he would not be a 400k card

In A previous post, someone stated that after every conquest you'll get a card, that is simply not true. Conquest will give you points/XP towards a program or card in some cases. In other cases, the map may include a card. You'll have to look at the conquest map and see what rewards you can get, and what objectives you must meet to acquire those rewards.

In General, conquest gives you a lot of packs to open for free. No Money spent people love conquest, as we don't have to buy stubs 🙂

Hop in and try whatever mode you like. I see some saying conquest is boring or showdown is hard and me personally well I hate moments. The thing is you won't really know what mode you enjoy the most until you try them. You will be able to get Live Series Tatis and Baurer right away assuming you have the stubs for them. If they are say 30k-50k there will be so many rewards out there it wouldn't take you long to build those up by just playing. They will both most likely have additional cards come out that you may want to pick up.

There is a lot to take in when the game first releases. Just take your time and look through it all and do whatever looks and sounds fun to you.

Yeah jump into Conquest first and remember you don’t have to play every game. Always check the goals too because sometimes there is a capture a team within 4 turns or something. One of the forum folks did a solid video on Conquest tips for 20 which will likely be still relevant for 21: https://youtube.com/watch?v=iugtVkjlgiY. I’m sure more will pop up from some other streamers too shortly after launch.

Conquest is the best way to get an intro to the gameplay. I have been playing the show for years off and on and showdown last year was the first year for it and I sucked at it. Unless they changed it with the changes that people had asked for they can be extremely frustrating and it is a all of nothing game mode.

You do.after every game you ll get the post game roullette, now granted it most likely will be a common or sometimes bronze but thats why i mentioned selling for stubs.

ah, fair enough. I don't even count that, but I do think I got a diamond once, so there's always a chance!

I dont either after all this time. but i anticipated it might be a bigger deal to someone new to the game.

While he is right that showdown is more rewarding, id suggest doing conquest until you get familiar with how the game plays, the controls etc.before jumping into something a lot more difficult.
You select the difficulty in conquest and vs cpu and since you wont have a high rated team to start, lower difficulty will be better at first, after each conquest youll get a player card as a reward that can either upgrade your team or sell to maybe buy better players.
Most important thing is to not try and go too fast, just relax and have fun and the rewards and better players will come.go at your own pace.

I agree with you there but showdown is also a great place to try out the cards in the game(especially the ones you’re working toward) and imo so much less of a grind than conquest

That sounds like a great way to start, especially since I'll probably not be very good at the game until I get used to it. When you do conquest, do you play every game? I've seen some that only play the strongholds but in doing that, do you lose out on lots of potential rewards from playing at every opportunity?

Take an hour to learn the gameplay first. You’re screwed if you can’t field, hit, throw or run the bases. Learn to manage multiple runners and turn double plays.
