Yes. MLB The Show 21 supports cross-play and cross-generational play. So Xbox One vs PS5 or PS4 vs Xbox Series X.

Where specifically are you saying? The only thing locked to a specific console platform is the Stubs you purchase on that console platform.

The ecosystem comment is just stating that current-gen and next-gen on the same platform can also play against each other.

Ahh that makes sense , because the stadium creator is only for the new generation consoles. Otherwise how would you have stadiums loading on previous Gen. Solution buy the 99 version which gets you the current gen and free upgrade when you can pick up one of these new consoles.
I think for Online play with the stadiums just make it an option when you are picking your options , yes to custome stadiums or no I don't want to play , they could also go deeper and make a page with checkboxes on stadiums you would play at outside of the normal MLB. I don't care what stadium we play at as long as the down the line is over 300 feet down the lines.

Its pretty straightforward imo
Ps5 - XS - Ps4
XS - Ps5 - X1
Ps4 - X1 - Ps5
X1 - Ps4 - XS -
After Collin's answer I see only two options regarding stadium creator
- It cannot be used for online modes.
- Created stadiums can somehow be downloaded to the older consoles. But of course that opens up the stadium creator to become a troll on it's own.
I am betting on option #1

I could be wrong, but my guess would be no if you're talking about PS to Xbox. To message other players we have always been required to use the Playstation's UI. There hasn't been any kind messaging system in game. Maybe SDS has changed that for this year since they have gone multiplatform, but I don't think there has been any mention of that yet.
It is theoretically possible though. A friend of mine who has an Xbox asked me to play Fortnite a week or two back since it is cross play and something we could do together. I'm not really a fan of the game, but one thing I was impressed by was how easy it was for us to communicate across platforms. As soon as we got into a party I heard his voice and was able to talk with him through the DualSense. If SDS really wanted to they could make it happen, but I don't see why they would add that feature now when they have never had voice chat in the past. You don't exactly need to talk strategy when it's 1 vs 1.

We will work to clarify the FAQ.
But cross-play and cross-generational play was enabled in the Tech Test. So if you likely have already played someone from a different console on a different generation if you participated in the Tech Test.
