    BREAKING: Texans Release J.J. Watt
END OF AN ERA. The Texans have released JJ Watt. Watt says he sat down with the McNair family and asked for his release. The move saved the Texans $17.5M. The Texans could have traded JJ Watt and received a solid draft pick. They decided to do it this way, handling their face of the franchise with class.

Not MLB, but still really interesting

Update of the news I have forgotten to post: 😂 Note: The oldest stuff will be on the top.
The Diamondbacks have signed infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to a one-year, $1.75MM contract with $1.05MM in incentives, Jon Heyman of MLB Network tweets.

The Indians are nearing a contract with free-agent outfielder Billy Hamilton. Hamilton will make a $1MM salary and up to $950K in incentives if he gets to the majors, per Heyman.

The Rays sign Rich Hill. He will earn $2.5MM on a one-year deal,

The Rays and right-hander Collin McHugh have agreed to a one year, $1.8 dollar deal.

Mets right-hander Seth Lugo will undergo elbow surgery to fix a broken bone spur on Tuesday, the team announced.

The Yankees have agreed to a minor league deal with veteran outfielder Jay Bruce, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports (Twitter links). Bruce will earn a $1.35MM guarantee for reaching the big league roster, plus additional $50K bonuses that will unlock if he receives at least 400 plate appearances.

The Orioles have agreed to a minor league deal with right-hander Matt Harvey. Harvey will earn $1MM if he makes the Orioles’ active roster.

Right-hander Jack Flaherty has won his arbitration hearing with the Cardinals, FanSided’s Robert Murray reports (Twitter link). Flaherty will receive the $3.9MM salary he was seeking in 2021, as opposed to the $3MM offered by St. Louis.

Right-hander Mike Soroka has won his arbitration case with the Braves, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports (Twitter link). Soroka will receive $2.8MM for the 2021 season, as opposed to the $2.1MM that was offered by Atlanta.

The Rays have won their arbitration hearing against left-hander Ryan Yarbrough, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports (via Twitter). Tampa Bay will pay Yarbrough $2.3MM in 2021, as opposed to the $3.1MM salary Yarbrough was hoping to land.

The Seattle Mariners have an agreement in place with James Paxton, per Chad Dey of Sportsnet650 (via Twitter). The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal confirms the deal. Paxton will make $8.5MM on a one-year deal with bonuses upping the potential value to $10MM, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan (via Twitter). “Big Maple” will earn an additional $750K with 10 games and $750K at 20 games, adds MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. Paxton is represented by the Boras Corporation.

Justin Turner alerted the baseball universe of his return to Los Angeles. Pending a physical, the Vayner Sports client will re-sign with the Dodgers for two years, $34MM with a $14MM team option for a third year. The deal includes an $8MM signing bonus and built-in escalators that could raise the overall value of the deal to $52MM over three years, conditional to MVP voting.

    Opinion time! By Jake:
MLBTR: The Cubs are looking for a left-handed hitting second baseman.
Me: GIVE NICO SOME PLAYING TIME!!!!!!!!!
    Anyway, back to the news.....

The Mets have signed Mike Montgomery and Tommy Hunter to minor-league contracts (via Tim Healey of Newsday). Both pitchers will receive invitations to major league spring training.

The Athletics have agreed to a one-year deal with Sergio Romo, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal (Twitter link). Romo will be paid $2.25MM, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports. Romo is represented by Meister Sports Management.

The Dodgers have avoided arbitration with catcher Austin Barnes by agreeing to a two-year deal worth $4.3MM, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports (Twitter links). The contract breaks down as a $300K signing bonus, $1.5MM in 2021, $2.5MM in 2022, and another $400K in potential incentives based on games played.

Right-hander Jared Hughes has announced his retirement after 10 Major League seasons. “I’ve hung up my cleats. It was time,” the 35-year-old Hughes said on his Instagram page, joking that “they were worn out from all the sprinting.”

The Athletics have re-signed right-hander Yusmeiro Petit to a one-year contract, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports (Twitter link). The deal will be official once Petit passes a physical. MLBTR’s Steve Adams reports that Petit will earn $2.55MM in guaranteed money, with another $450K available in incentive bonuses. Petit is represented by Godoy Sports.

The Padres have signed right-hander Keone Kela, per Jon Heyman of the MLB Network (via Twitter). The deal is pending a physical. Kela initially posted the news himself on his instagram feed.
