It appears that all efforts to balance top players and common players are useless, and top players still beat all other players with ease. Another problem is that in ranked season reset, everyone above 800 is back to 700, making the first two weeks of ranked season unplayable except for top players. And those balancing efforts have negative effect to the game experience, most notably the good/good routine outs increased significantly to compensate the introduction of perfect/perfect, and many games are instead decided by bloopers and HRs that PCI are not even on the ball.

So instead of keep trying other balancing efforts, why not just accept the fact that it's impossible to balance, and instead try to separate? Create something like the premier/super ranked season league, and only players meets certain criteria are allowed to enter, like got to CS or WS at least once in the regular league. The reward of the premier league WS can be the BR 12-0 cards, making those cards more available. Also the top 50 nameplate is only available in premier league. To avoid top players go play regular league, anyone gets the premier league WS reward in the current season can't join regular league games until the next season. Can also consider adding regular league WS pack into premier league CS reward, making it more attractive.

Ummmm that's how all games should work.

There shouldn't be any effort to balance the two in the first place, the best player should win

I dislike getting stomped by goons as much as anyone but I’m not sure I understand what OP is saying.

Is it that he wants to be able to make WS without having to play any goons?

I was actually contemplating something along these lines the other day. This is my first year playing online. I'm not good and generally at this point in the game I'm matched up against goons. For example, I happened to look at the events leaderboard the other day and noticed the #1 ranked player was Jawn Wick or something. The name looked familiar and saw that I had played him and got crushed. There is no way that someone of my caliber should be matched up against him. Its not fun. It gets to the point where I turn off the console in disgust and say I'm not playing any more.

When I actually get matched up against someone with a similar skill set I have a ton of fun. So, for events could there be different tiers that you could enter? Say, a bronze, silver and gold "tier" that you could enter. Each tier would have certain restrictions and overall rewards would be based off the tier. Goons may not want to waste their time in the lower tiers playing against weaker competition with rewards along the lines of what we see in the RIB map. The higher tier would reward winners with the current WS/BR players.

Just throwing some ideas out there. We all want the game to be fun and engaging.

I’m not unsympathetic, but, to be honest, taking a drubbing from a really good player is kind of a rite of passage.

The idea makes me think of games like destiny where they tried to separate the casuals from the sweaties by creating different pvp modes (with different rewards as you propose).

The only thing that happened is the goons loved to come stomp in the casual mode, and the casuals complained about not being able to get the better rewards.

The OP makes an excellent suggestion. All professional sports create tiered leagues to keep things competitive. You don't see NBA teams playing G-league teams as part of the season schedule. Or MLB team playing minor league teams during the season.

SDS should consider a English soccer structure - Premier league for the best, and a lower level or two for the rest. Promotions can be made from lower levels to higher. SDS could also add open tournaments for anyone to qualify similar to the FA Cup.

I like the concept of this. But I think the cutoff should be at 700. This way you have the under 700 crowd playing and getting better/not giving goons layups/keeping people engaged etc. Yet over 700 still have to “earn the right” so to speak.

In all honesty this is sort of how it works anyway and yes, the first few days of an event is difficult because of the reset. But those clear up faster than the original OP suggests.

I’d actually rather the Ranked Season completely reset stats (still keep the ranking system) so that I can see my record and player stats for each and see how much I’m improving. It’s not as engaging when I hit .176 when I was learning and at the end of the year I’m hitting .276 yet the ranked season I’m currently in I might be batting .330.

    Anyway, have a great Sunday.

The only thing The Show needs to adjust with RS is the way you progress. Stop making it point based and make it record based. Have each tier have a specific number of games you have to win without losing "x" number of games and you go to the next level. This eliminates the point discrepancies you get vs different ranked players. More importantly it gives players at least a few games at each new level. This means you actually getting better when you make HOF difficulties because you get at least 3-4 games, even if they're all losses. The higher ranked person in the matchup is the home team and it's on their difficulty, not the lower persons. I'd honestly love to hear a better way to do RS than this.

Put a restriction on the tiers so that the goons are overqualified for that tier? If goons are creating new accounts just to qualify for that tier then maybe after x amount of wins you get bounced to the next tier or if you are winning games by x amount of runs you get leveled up?

Getting beat is one thing, getting destroyed is another. I think someone hit 5 home runs on 5 consecutive pitches in an event on me. I get it, you're good - I'm not but I'm practicing and hopefully can get better. If not then I'll just stick to the offline content and be perfectly happy.

I'll add this. If you lose the "x" number of games you go backwards 1 tier. Then, instead of having to win, let's say 7 games without losing three at the previous tier again since you already did that, you just have to win 2 games without losing 2 games. If you do that, you go back up, but if you lose 2 you drop again. This makes progressing a little easier if you do fall back without penalizing you too much.

The thing I didn’t understand when I first played a ranked game in like 2014, is the moving up through divisions. I thought I would play a complete season in the division I was in.

In that sense it could be cool. You know all the guys that start at 400 play each other for a season and the top few move up. You know how there are tiers in OOTP perfect team and you play the 16 or 32 other teams in your division fir the week, then move up or down...

Seasons would have to be much shorter and there’s have to be a lot more rewards. Otherwise it would seem like that might be slow and stale quickly.

True. In perfect team, each week is a season.

I mean the rewards could just change at the frequency they do now. If one dynasty season is, what, a month? So the reward for each tier changes every four seasons.

I’m just spitballing. Sometimes I just don’t feel like playing out every game against a thug, particularly in the case of the ones that have an annoying stadium sound for every strikeout, run, stolen base...

I don’t mind playing good players, but the guys that spam DJ horn at me I just can’t be bothered sometimes.

I play the game on mute 90% of the time, so I don’t hear any of that stuff. The commentary for the game is bad enough without the awful sounds of the show.

Definitely agree if seasons were a week long, that may work. I like the idea of knowing what I need to do to advance a tier though. If I knew I was at DS and needed to win 7 games before taking 3 losses, I think it helps plan accordingly. I may press more or be conservative if I’ve got some losses to play with.

The only other solution I can think of is have each tier have a set point total per win and loss. Not this random nonsense we have now.

The matchup system they use now is awful. There has to be a better way then going blindly into a game. As soon as the matchup screen comes up and the guy has 1000 games played and prestiged Frenchy Cordero I know I'm going to get crushed plus my friendly quit is always declined (before any pitch is thrown).

Yeah, I’m amazed how many of you have 4-500 ranked games played.

I’ve been playing since day one and have just shy of 100.

That said, I do work in film, so maybe I just don’t have the time some of you have.

But how would you see all the cards you need to buy to compete/be as good as them?. Im just kidding, I’m in full agreement that there needs to be some adjustments to Rs and matchmaking, best you can do for now is make sure you keep your opponent search tight, keep the bar all the way left and itll match you up with people within 50’points north or south of you.
