@Ikasnu said in Let's play a game shall we?:

Does this stat line win MVP in today's game?

    163 games played
    200 Hits
    49 HRs
    OPS of 1.055
    152 RBIs
    113 Runs scored.

    Does this win MVP?

    How is he playing 163?

    A tie with Toronto.

Maybe if he hadn't have forearm-shivered Fernando Vina.

One of the downfalls of relying on media voting for MVP/Hall of Fame is that if you're prickly with the media, they'll take their revenge on you come award/Hall time.

Divisional tie. Rockies played a 163 a few years ago against the Doyers.

1998 Albert Belle. Finished 8th in MVP voting. Thats how crazy 1998 baseball was.

Stats like this in today's game would almost certainly garner a 1st or 2nd place finish.

So to bring this into more context, here are 2019s MVPs.

    Trout
    134 Games
    110 Runs
    137 Hits
    45 HRs
    104 RBI
    .291 AVG
    1.083 OPS

    Bellinger
    156 Games
    121 Runs
    170 Hits
    47 HRs
    115 RBI
    .305 Avg
    OPS 1.035

Bellinger loses to Belle, but Trout with a full season would of still won. My god Trout is on another level when you look at the stats, he's good, everyone knows that but just looking at the stat line drives it home even further.

Bellinger was worth 9.1 bWAR vs. Belle's 7.1 bWAR and played a harder position - RF vs. LF. I doubt he loses to Belle....if the vote was still in 2019. In '98 tho...who knows.

Yeah you have to factor in defence... at least a little bit.

If Belle hadn’t been such a colossal Richard, he would have done a lot better. You don’t throw a couple baseballs in anger at a Sports Illustrated photographer (which happened in ‘96) and expect not to have the rest of the press corps hold a grudge when they cast their votes. When he hit a fan who had been heckling him about his drinking square in the chest with a ball in ‘91, that was more deserved, but still... you can’t do that either.

Even worse, he dissed Skip Bertman.

    You. Just. Don't. Do. That.
