I agree. I mean, there are ALL these attributes which are supposed to be at play already to determine a pitcher’s stuff, makeup, etc.
Why do we even need confidence to influence things more?
If I’m in a 3-0 count, I should be able to throw a strike if I want.

I don't understand why confidence is needed. I agree it exists in real baseball, but it also already exists in us, the real players of this game, as well. If I'm feeling on a roll or in a slump, I have my own confidence that already factors in to whether I hit my marks on my input.
It seems to me that the confidence bar is just there to introduce randomness rather than replicate real life confidence.

I think a pitcher gains way too much confidence on a ball you Perfect Perfect that barely gets caught... Or a robbed home run... I think they need to adjust the gains for sure.

The pattern I’ve noticed is I get a hitter 0-2 and for the life of me, I can’t throw a strike. Perfect inputs on the corner are way off for balls and pitches aimed way out of the zone are magically fouled off. Batter gets back to 3-2 and then it’s a crapshoot. So hard to strike guys out anymore. The pitching this year reminds me so much of 18. Fastballs get crushed, try to pitch to contact with secondary stuff, confidence is king, contact hitters are useless, once you’re 0-2 the next few pitches are almost guaranteed balls. I liked the pitching in 19, what happened to that?

Right after I type this, as if to prove my point, Justin Verlander gives up a quick five in the first inning to a player. This game is so hard to pitch in anymore

Yeah, if you are actually trying to strikes and still falling behind 3-0, it’s just not fun.
Also, I had no idea how many people hold R2. I thought my controller was going. Amazing how often my timing is messed up because of that.

When they hold R2, what exactly does it do to you on your end?

When I go to pull down my analog to start the windup, there is a delay. I’m waiting for the ball to start moving, which messes up my timing.
I posted about this on another thread and another community member replied that this “mystery” was in fact caused by my opponent holding R2.

I get more strikeouts this year than I did last year, or that’s how I feel. If it wasn’t for the random hangers and excessive window for contact on badly timed swings, or swings where the PCI is a country mile away from the ball, I’d probably say pitching was perfect. As it stands, it’s terrible. Pitch speeds and differentials are good, which leads to more strikeouts. You have to sit fastball to hit a fastball, even on all star. It’s just the rest of the problems that negate the effectiveness of pitching.

The big problem for me is the confidence dips too much too quickly. I’ll throw 5 shutout innings, give up a seeing eye single, a double, and then the gates open up. Almost no way to recover unless the person I’m playing swings exceptionally badly.
