2 Seam Fastball

Is there any value to this pitch at all? How do you throw this with success? To me it just looks flat and comes in 2 or 3 MPH slower than the 4 seam...
-
Can’t leave it over the plate. Best way to throw it is away, nibbling corner for Rhp/Rhb matchup similar, LHP/LHB. Or, you throw it railing out the zone RHP/LHB and LHP/RHB
-
I rarely use that pitch but it's been effective against me at times if you know how to use it. I'll throw it occasionally but normally I'll make sure I get it off the plate and it's more of just a "show me pitch" to give the batter something different to look at.

It depends on your opponent. If the guy you’re playing is always late on your 4SFB, you should NEVER throw the two seam cause you’ll just end up throwing it to his timing.
The opposite is where I’d throw it a bit more. Opponent always early on 4 seamer, I’d throw more two seams on the outer side to induce weak grounders
-
Personally I only throw a 2 steam fastball when my pitcher has good control of this pitch. For instance, Vida seems to have more control on his 2 steam fastball compared to his 4 steam fastball. Oh and don’t forget to hit the corners as always : up and inside.
-
well, IRL the 2-seam goes up and in, so I would throw it low and in, try to get some fly ball outs or some weak grounders
-
dont throw it up in the zone you go low in or low away it. Low enough and it acts like a sinker
-
Dont throw it in any location is my rule

It also seems to always be a pitchers least used/weakest pitch...the more you throw those, the more you are playing with fire
-
The only time I've found it useful is with pitchers like DeGrom with a hot 4seam, where there is a speed differential, it can be used to unbalance people that are cheating to catch up with the heat.
-
Personally I only use the 2 seamer as an out pitch and always throw it just outside of the zone. For me whenever it ends up in the zone it gets hit into the stands.
-
I only ever throw 2sm to the same side as its break. I will never throw it to the opposite side of the plate where it can break into the middle.
If you keep it on the same side it can only break in. Great pitch to use vs opposite handed hitters, I get a lot of roll overs.
-
i feel its best effective throwing to inside corner and letting it work in off the plate

2-seam fastballs used as waste pitches either slightly or drastically under the zone are good to set up change-ups and sliders for strikes. The small amount of pitcher hand side tail can be effective to generate weak contact.
