Not surprisingly, he opted in to the 7 year 219 million remaining in his contract. He had had some injury problems but was insane of a week this postseason. He also almost hit 60 homeruns a couple years back.
So, baseball question...Would you be happy or upset if Stanton had opted out and your team signed him for a 7 year 220 million dollar contract?

In a perfect team scenario, no. But in the real world where the Cardinals are pretty cheap, it would probably lock up any financial flexibility they have and they need more than Stanton to be a good team
