Have to defend my Padres and Jayce Tingler a little bit here. He gets a little too much criticism for scolding Tatis Jr. in regards to swinging 3-0 and hitting that grand slam. He did scold him a little, but the main reason was because he disregarded the take sign he was given on a 3-0 count and swung anyway. If Tatis Jr. wasn't given the take sign I'm not sure there would have been any scolding, but if a player ignores a sign I would say that he deserves to catch a little criticism from the manager.

Are you glad you guys got rid of Renteria? Two teams now have gotten rid of him before playoff runs.
At least two, not sure about others. It just doesn't seem like he is a good championship coach. -

Yea I have a problem with “old school” sports. If you give me a meatball with the bases loaded or [censored] no one on base you bet your [censored] I’m smacking that on you. My job is to beat you and demoralize you so next time we play you will remember it. Nothing needed to or shouldn’t have been said to him about it. Man is making peanuts right now so not a big contract. I can keep going but it’s not worth my time. Tell that to the football players that were made to go back out on the field with concussions cause that was “old school”

Renteria seemed to be coming in to his own. You could tell at times he was lost trying to make a decision. My lifelong best friend is a huge Sox fan. I just spent 30 min discussing this with him. He’s not excited. It seems like a very odd and overly sentimental move.

So you're saying that if a guy misses or fails to execute a sign he doesn't deserve to be scolded as long as the end result is positive? Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing him hit that grand slam, especially with how heated that series with the Rangers was. Maybe I'm old school but if a player fails to execute a sign in my opinion the manager has a right to be upset. I agree it lightens the severity a little when the ball sails over the right field fence as opposed to popping out to the second baseman but still, have to listen to your manager.

Who said anything about football? I’m talking about pitching inside and brushing guys back. Breaking up two. Taking the catcher out who’s blocking the plate. You know real baseball not a video game. You ever play? How many times do you think Drysdale hit Aaron because he was crowding the plate? Plenty and Aaron never charged the mound, he just took his base. You understand prima donnas now?

Serious talk yes I played 2 years of college DII ball at University of Scranton before I broke my collar bone. If a pitcher hit me because I was crowding or because I got a hit last at bat you bet your [censored] I’m charging the mound. And by prima donnas do you mean the azzholes that slide in to the base with no intention of getting on base just hurting the fielder. Or the azzholes that would demolish a catcher not even in the way of the plate. Or did you mean the whiny lil [censored] pitchers that bean players for no reason except their mad. Good day sir

I find it crazy that they RE-hire a guy who first coached them starting over 40 years ago... up until 1986 I believe. There are only two guys on the current roster that were even born during his first run with the White Sox. Encarnacion and Dyson. That is crazy. I don’t see this as any type of long lasting marriage, Either due to his age or his inability to communicate with a much much younger group of guys. This will be interesting but I I just don’t understand the decision To hire him. This is a stopgap move at best. (Unless you feel he can manage into his 80s effectively.)

Yeah I get it, and like I said maybe I'm just too old school but you listen to your manager or coach. You can question his decision after the fact, nothing wrong with that at all but in the moment you execute the sign. Otherwise at the end of the day, what's the point of having a manager? The scolding is definitely a little more light hearted if he hits the slam but you still have to scold.
