His Kershaw video I think is more flagrant. He tunnels the FB, SNK and SL and just fools the guy

Tunneling is just the ability for a pitcher to throw multiple pitches from the same release point/arm angle. Most pitchers have a hard time doing this because their arm angles don’t allow them to do this. However pitchers like Maddux, Kershaw and Hershiser are great examples of pitch tunneling. It’s that simple

The concept is to throw pitches that look exactly the same out of the pitchers hand but either vary in speed or break in slightly different directions in order to fool batters.

To take it a step further, the same release point/arm angle allows the balls trajectory to appear the same for the first X feet of travel.
With different release points/arm angles, it’s easier for the hitter to determine the type of pitch sooner in time and from a further distance.
With pitch tunnelling, two pitches may appear to be the same for the first 30 feet of travel. Now the hitter has half the distance and significantly less time to identify the pitch type, speed, and break.

I faced a guy who tunneled with Giolito so well, I thought the game was broke.

So it’s nothing you the player does? It’s just picking pitchers that have the same look for multiple pitches?

No, you can tunnel with any pitcher just some are better than others depending on pitch types and breaks

No, it's just throwing pitches that start off looking the same. For example you throw a sinker middle in to a lefty, the next pitch could be a slider that follows the same path as the sinker, but breaks down and way inside. The hitter has a higher likelihood of mistaking that slider for the sinker. Some pitchers are more effective with this because their pitch repertoire lends itself to it or because their throwing motion is deceptive

During the NLCS they were talking about how well Ian Anderson does this with his 4 Seam FB, Curve, and an actual 4 seam change up...throws over the top with same release point..IRL he has 3 + pitches too bad his 96 FS card isn't very usable in RS (assuming with pitch selection and lack of 99 heat). The 4 seam FB 96 ish and the 4 seam change have the same spin as well as release point which allows him to throw it all over the zone not just low.. one of the best change ups in game
