Possible solution for Wagner / Chipper situation in MLB 21?
-
This is the first year we’ve had this kind of situation where some BR rewards have become practically unobtainable regardless of the amount of stubs you have. I understand that the intended way to earn these cards is to go flawless in BR, but I also feel as if someone should be able to get any card if they are willing to shell out enough stubs for it.
A possible solution I thought of for next year’s game is to set up a system where you could automatically obtain any single card in the game if you traded in the maximum amount of stubs you could put up in a buy order. In this case, you could automatically obtain 99 Wagner or 99 Chipper by trading in 1 million stubs in a sort of exchange kind of way. I’m not exactly sure how this would be coded into the game this is just a rough idea I happened to come up with. If players were able to spend 1 million stubs and automatically obtain one of these BR rewards like Chipper and Wagner, it would eliminate the long waiting line for them. This same idea could be applied to those common cards such as AJ Ramos and Paolo Espinal that have a long line of people with 1,000 stub buy orders. These people are just waiting for these to be filled in order to finish off the LS collections. If people were able to outright obtain them by just exchanging 1,000 stubs, the waiting line for those cards would diminish and it would let people be able to finish the collections without waiting as long as they had the funds.
The reward for going flawless isn’t taken away here either. The motive will always be there to play BR, as you will still be able to make 900k stubs (after tax) by going 12-0 in BR. Or you could go 12-0 in BR to obtain Chipper or Wagner for free and save yourself 1 million stubs.
I feel like this could be a potential fix that SDS could look to implement in next year’s game in order to make these kinds of cards more obtainable. Again, I’m not sure whether it’s possible or not to code a system like that into the game, this was just a rough idea that I had thought of after seeing more than 200 buy orders of 1 million stubs go up for 99 Chipper within 10 minutes of the card being available.
Let me know what you guys think! Would you be on board with this idea? Would you rather things stay the same and nothing change? Or do you have a different idea?

Not a terrible idea but that would kill the point of going flawless. I think they would have to say you can earn and sell for a max 1m or you could outright buy for at least double.

This isn’t technically the first year with waiting lists on cards. In 17 Alomar(WS reward, Harper(BR) and Bagwell(Yes Jeff Bagwell) were all at the then 500k stub cap

I am happy to see the TA3 and I hope TA4 cards are on the market. Fan favorites of players should at least be obtain able even if a lesser level like in Chipper sense

I would think the better way to solve the problem is by finding a way to incentivize more BR play.
I know in years past, they've upped the reward structure mid-year. And they may still do that year this year.

To tell you the truth I wish Griffey, Chipper and Pujols are available in May next year. It would stop a lot of the complaining about content if you ask me. Alot of the “this card won’t make my bench” or “who asked for this card” or “this card is an L” crowd want those 3 cards in their lineup and refuse to use anyone else

Op, I was thinking of this earlier. If they had the option to buy any card from the store that could help.
If you want chip...2 mil stubs for an unsellable card. The stubs go into the abyss and you get the desired card. Dont have to wait months maybe rhe whole year to get someone you like
-
I say that you take off all stubs caps!
Really though, let people pay more than a mil if they want, and have more than 5 mil if they want
Maybe??? -
Diamonds should have no cap, imagine Christie's having a $1 million cap on a T206 Honus, or a Trout Superfractor, ridiculous...Free the market!

I disagree with the claim that it would kill the point of going flawless. You’d be playing it for the big stub payout of 900k after taxes or to earn the reward without having to pay 1 mil. However, I would be happy with having an option to outright buy a card for double the price, so buy Chipper for 2mil. That would indeed make the card a bit more exclusive. I just think the whole waiting in line thing for a card is kinda lame. If we have the stubs for it and we are willing to spend, we shouldn’t have to wait until the end of the game’s lifecycle for it.

Ah yes, forgot about those. I didn’t pay as much attention to them then bc I didn’t even have enough stubs to complete the LS collections lol. I remember them now that you mention it.

They need more packs with new cards to take stubs out of the market. There’s no headliners anymore, flash sale packs are the same cards we’ve seen for months now. Right now there’s not much to spend on, they should have made RiB a couple different sets of packs with a rare round Chipper and other highly sought after cards.
