Chris sale worth 250k?
-
Anybody think he is worth that much? I have 500k with a very good team and not much to buy so wondering if he is worth it.
-
Yes, he’s perfect for that price. I got him for a little bit cheaper, so that was a bonus. He’s a dominant lefty, which there are few of those.

Some cards are comically overpriced. I never ever reached 300K stubs, and if I did I might feel differently, but how does a card be allowed to get to let's say, 600K and up? The Gary Carter price is a joke, unless he's the best Catcher in the game, which is unlikely.
Donaldson may still be jacked up higher than a Quadruple espresso, and SDS allows this ish. -
Supply & demand. BR cards cost more because there are less of them in circulation.

With Gary Carter there might 50 of that card out there because he’s a flawless reward. Same goes for Feller and Wagner and all of the flawless rewards.

They do have some control. At a minimum they will not allow bids and prices that are too out of range. SDS does not want to see the market ruin the game. There are rules. They also have control over stub value by setting the cost of stubs, having stub sales, and controlling stub rewards. This causes the volume of stubs available in the market to change and thus affects prices enormously. Although they keep it the same, SDS controls sales tax rate. They control which cards can be sold and which cannot be. They control the quick sale price. They are in complete control of card supply as they are the only ones who create the cards and determine how they are attained. There are many ways that SDS can control, or at least affect, the card market. There is also potential for market manipulation, but I am not going to accuse them of anything shady.

Chris Sale is 100% worth it. I don’t say that very often of cards over 200k, but this one holds its weight

The key word in there is they can affect the market, the players set it. They set minimum and maximum values for rarities to avoid stub transfers and things like that. The market is still completely set by the players and what they do with their stubs/money.

Yes really, it has everything to do with rarity. It’s called supply vs demand. It’s simple market economics.

It can drop in an instant if they do a ducks in a pond drop sale on a weekend. Hopefully they do on some of those rarer cards to drop the prices.

They're not going to put br rewards, event rewards, or ws rewards in packs, so don't hold your breath on that one. If you want those cards, it's simple; save up your stubs, and buy them.

He's right that there also has to be some demand. Otherwise all 12-0 br rewards would be going for Wagner's price.
Heck, in your own example you acknowledge a card's rarity as the supply in supply-and-demand, but then you completely overlook the demand aspect. You and I both know that br cards will always be higher because of it's rarity, but to sustain an elite price there also has to be demand.

That Gary Carter card has been that price since it was introduced. I’m guessing there might be 10 or so of those cards available being that he is not in my opinion as in demand as the say Wagner card that everyone who go’s flawless gets. And his price I believe is set by SDS at 500k. Might be wrong but his price has not fluctuated at all. And that’s a direct reflection of rarity.

It's not 500, but a mil. I have Carter, and that 700 you see listed is mine. I have no intention of selling him, but when I saw a stub transfer go through earlier this year, it kind of peeved me. I set him at 700 to keep any higher prices down, but high enough I won't accidently sell him. There are plenty of earlier flawless rewards that are going from 150 -200. The demand is what keeps them from going to Wagner's price.
I'm not disagreeing with you at all about rarity fetching a much higher price, just that demand does play a role in their premium price.

You have it backwards a bit. Yes Carter is likely more rare than Wagner I agree. So why does he cost less than Wagner if rarity is all that matters? Demand matters too, and that is why Wagner costs more. Everyone wants Wagner and few people want Carter for that price.

Really? This is my first year playing....was hoping some of those rare ones would eventually make the market at the end of the year. Not because I would play them, but because I like collecting each set. There goes my objective of collecting every awards card.
