Side note..... who the hell is Larry Doby and why is his card so [censored] cheap.
No to Ryan. Control is very suspect.
Doby was a stud card a couple of years ago. I do believe he was the first Black player in the AL.

Yep, first African-American player in the AL and first African-American player to win the WS (along with teammate Satchel Paige)

Son, learn your Sox history or lose the avatar.
im good gramps but thanks for participating. Guess im not a fan since i dont know every player that ever played for my team. Now i must denounce them [censored] I dont know who the QB was for my 49ers 1962 so I guess i have to stop rooting for them
Watch Baseball by Ken Burns. Learn something. Prideful ignorance is the dangerous.

I love Ken Burns. My dad is a Vietnam Vet and loves his documentaries. Im not concerned about "prideful ignorance". Get in line if you can name every single player that played for your team in any sport. If not then just move along

No one is saying you have to know every player who ever played for your team. They are however saying that you probably should know a HOFer from your team especially one who played such a pivotal role in breaking the color barrier

Well never heard of the man ever. Like ever. Thank you SDS for educating me

Not that it's a big deal but I would kind of agree with others. If you're a Sox fan I would think you would know who Larry Doby is. Not talking about a utility infielder from the 1979 team but this is a hall of famer who played a pivotal role in the history of the game.
Back to the topic of the thread, I haven't used the new Ryan card but I actually had a lot of success with his other diamond that was one of the rewards with the LS collection. I know a lot of people struggle with his cards but that card at least played pretty well for me. If you're looking for someone who can throw some gas, Kerry Wood is a great option as well. I use him and he has the ability to completely dominate some people. He can get a little wild at times but he can also be effectively wild.

Oh it’s not a big deal what’s so ever man. There’s plenty of things in my life I should have known about and didn’t. I won’t be losing sleep over not knowing about a player that played for my team for 3 years back in the fifties. If I was an Indians fan then I should be branded.
Yea I think I’m going to pull the trigger on Nolan. I also bought Noah to try out

This... who said that you should know everyone who ever played for your team?-nobody. But to not know the greatest players (hall of famers) that played for your team. That is kind of sad. It would be like 30 years from now someone asking you “who the heck is Frank Thomas, I never heard of the guy” I think you’d cringe just a bit hearing that.
You don’t have to be a Gramps to know who the best to ever play the game are. Anyone who is a fan of the history of Baseball knows who Larry Doby was.By the way SDS clearly didn’t educate you... GRAMPS did.

Oh man you had me rolling comparing Frank Thomas White Sox legacy to Larry’s White Sox legacy. WOW. And leave gramps alone he’s sleeping

I'm with you on that one man. Plenty of things that I should know that I don't either....probably too much.
Good luck with Nolan, I've been curious as to how that card plays. Like I said, I know a lot of people don't like him but his previous card did well for me so this one intrigues me.

I enjoyed using Ryan when I had him, personally I think he's be better in a long relief spot but that's out he window with the nerfed starters out of the bullpen change. 5 or 6 innings with Orel or Maddux, then drop Ryan on you for 2 or 3..
After 4 innings people I played started to adjust but usually for 3-4 innings he was untouchable.
Another hard thrower that I have had success with is Johnson. I know I know, the windup. But it's not that bad, Klubers takes a long time, Kershaw... Honestly WJ aint that bad. his FB is very accurate and while his sinker is a bit flat his curveball kind of behaves like a slurve/slider. He's pretty solid, if his changeup dropped, or if he had a knuckle curve or something like that he'd be gross.
As a side note toast, a little humility goes a long way. if you don't willingly humble yourself someone, someday, will come a long and do it for you. The mocking sarcasm attitude leaves a bad taste in the mouth's of everyone older than teens-early 20's.

I had you rolling? You talk about the Big Hurt’s legacy for the White Sox while dismissing Larry Doby’s MUCH larger legacy for the entire sport. Again this isn’t a utility player we are talking about, this isn’t even Ron LeFlore, Greg Walker, Bobby Thigpen, or even Harold Baines for that matter.
Larry Doby is one of the greatest players of all time, AND he broke the American League color barrier. I’d say that’s one hell of a legacy. Also If your father was in Viet Nam I’d say that you are old enough to know better when it comes to both Larry Doby and calling someone else gramps. Pot meet kettle.
