Custom leagues balks on question
-
Legit question: what is the philosophy behind it? I played in a league last year, where two "jackbehinds" complained that balks were off and quit.
It's always been off when playing RS, BR, etc. and other that Kenley Jansen, never seen a problem with it.
I ask because I see a lot of league invites with balks on and I'm legitimately wondering what is the reasoning; not trying to be a smartbehind.
Thanks!

Key word is simulation. Leagues want a sim style of play, quick pitching is a balk IRL, and would be in sim leagues. Personally I believe balks should be naturally enabled in online play across all modes, it's far to easy to do.

Thanks. I don't have a problem with quick pitches as it speeds up the game, and balks are pretty rare IRL. The only bad thing that quick pitches do IMO is make it tough to take a good lead to steal bases; then again, SBs in this game is way too hard and pickoffs too common compared to the potential gain.

I happen to disagree SB in this game is easy in online play. It is very difficult against the CPU. The CPU seems to pitch out when they know you are stealing even without an extra lead.

There are tons of leagues out there that are going to make rules you can’t steal. You can’t throw in the dirt. They make ridiculous rules that favor their style of gameplay.
No throwing in the dirt is the funniest rule to me. It’s basically saying..
.”only throw me pitches I can swing freely at and hit because I have no pitch recognition and I can’t lay off anything.”
It’s a silly style of play that suggests it’s the pitchers job to let the runner hit the ball. No. It’s the hitters job to earn a strike. By working the count and swinging at good pitches.
