Haven't played an MLB game since MVP '05 with Manny on the cover.

I'm an avid MyTeam player over on 2K so I'm aware of the card collecting modes, and I've watched a lot of Koogs46's videos to get a feel of the how the game cycle works over the course of a year.

I know all the game modes / updates have been revealed yet, but I just have a few questions I'm hoping someone wouldn't mind taking the time to answer:

    1. I got the $99 early access version. Is it smart to sell all my cards during the 4 days of early access? Will this be when whales that have the means to buy stubs / will want to over pay for random golds and (hopefully diamonds) that I pull?

1A. Or do I wait until after the 4 days so thousands of more ppl have the game to there’s more people willing to pay more?

1B. Do I sell the Diamond Big Papi or whatever diamond players I get in the choice pack? Will their value be highest day 1-4? I’m a Red Sox fan, so it would be cool to have the greatest clutch hitter who ever lived.

tl;dr - How do I maximize value from the free packs I get at the beginning? I want to collect all the live series eventually, but am in no rush.

    2. As a beginner, is there a mode I should prioritize? It seems like conquest might be easy stubs / XP to get me started along with the 3 inning games.

2A. I don't think you can sell collection, or Inning Boss rewards cards, so what rewards cards can you sell, just Ranked Season's / BR?

    3. I'm most worried about hitting, as it seems to be a difficult thing to learn. Can someone recommend the best YT video for hitting in general? I'm sure this new game will be different in some ways but any way I can get some sort of homework done will be helpful.

3A) Anyone know if the Show 18 or 17 or something is free to download on the PS Store to practice on?

    4. How does the "Create-a-Player" factor into DD? I understand the consumables like gloves and bats can be put onto your player, but is that a good use of resources? Should those just be sold for stubs to use on player collections?

Just trying to gain a sense of whether its worth time to improve your created player or if that's sort of a gimmick.

I don't plan on ripping packs, but I'm not opposed to buying like $50 worth of stubs once or twice throughout the year to accelerate the grind.

    Any general team-building / stub-managing tips appreciated, thanks! ✊ ⚾

Here's the only tip you need; search the web and youtube on how to 'flip' cards and work the market. If you have the time and the patience, you can have all the players in the game throughout the year without ever spending a dime.

Either that, or get really good at BR and make your fortune there. But assuming by your own statement that you're relatively new, I'd say go with the market.

A lot of the answers you're looking for boil down to personal preference and opportunity. Just like there's a different gameplay meta every year, there's a different market meta, too. We don't yet know what either will be for 20. In the past, some awesome cards have been held behind super specific collections or programs, for example.

Selling within the first few days has it's pros and cons. The market is super inflated and you can make a solid profit, but I've been burned before by selling golds at 700% market value day one only to have them turn diamond a few weeks later at 3000%.

As a new player, your goal should be to play as much as possible. The Show 17 and 18 aren't good proxys, in my opinion. Those two games behave much differently than 19 and (presumably) 20. I don't know how much you'd glean from hitting tips videos without the ability to put it into practice in the moment, to be honest. Play a lot of BR. Play a lot of conquest. Play a lot of friendlies. Don't be afraid to ask others what does/doesn't work for them and why.

There's a steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, these games are a lot of fun.

I will say that I didn't spend a dime on 19 and got both honus and mays it was way at the end of the season but I was able to get both of them. I would have had them sooner if I started flipping cards earlier. I started flipping cards around the 4th inning. I will say that the honus card made all the gold cards that were inning rewards skyrocket in value.

If you start ripping your pre-order packs with the expectation of getting a lot of golds and diamonds you will be extremely disappointed. If you net a few golds at start, that is great.

Look to field a team that will be competitive for conquest. To do this, look to get at least 1-2 solid relievers. I've compiled a list of players that I think will start as inexpensive silver switch hitters who can retain value as bench bats as I improve my starters. You will inevitably get a few good cards and a lot of XP through conquest even if you are patient enough to play most of the US Map games on Veteran and Rookie.

If the XP reward path returns, look at which non-auctionable players will be joining your roster and plan ahead. Most people grabbed Kershaw upon reaching Silver Tier last year because he was obviously the best pitcher in the game, but I saw a greater value in having Gwynn play every day in my outfield...Your milage will vary.

Now look at the Moments rewards. IS there a gold or diamond player who will have immediate impact on your team with minimal time/effort investment? Last year the Bryce Harper gold card was easy to get, but the gold Zobrist, diamond Mays, and Diamond Babe Ruth (pitcher) cards were excruciatingly long and rather difficult to accomplish when were first figuring out how Moments worked.

Remember that the first event will inevitable be played with common and bronze cards. Be ready to build a Common/Bronze team because that is probably the only H2H games you will be looking to play in for the first 2 weeks or so.

I can't give you life-changing tips, had you posted this 2-3 weeks ago I would have said get 19 for cheap and start practicing. If you want to play competitive, put your hitting view in Strike Zone ("SZ"), or another view that's really close. You lose out on presentation but you'll get better quicker. Conquest is a good way to both practice and grind rewards. As others have posted, the market is the market; ie, hard to predict. I'd say don't get too emotionally attached to cards, since as the season progresses, better and better cards keep flooding the market. 19 was insanely easy to get diamonds, I expect 20 to be more of the same.

Have fun trying out different methods to make stubs: collections, market, events, exchanges, etc. Hang around here to get some pointers on the new meta(s), and enjoy. There is no wrong way to enjoy the content.

Yeah, I did the same. No money spent and got Mays and Honus. Although I didn't do any flipping. Mostly got my stubs from WS rewards and BR rewards. Also at the beginning of the year, I sort of capitalized on the inning program boss rewards. If you can grind the program until you get the boss within 3 or so days of the program coming out, they usually go for like 3-5X what their eventually price will be. What I did was grind the boss out fast, sell him immediately and then buy all three bosses back towards the end of the month when their prices were low.

I have not spent a dime either and I don't play much online. I mostly stick to conquest, daily missions, and moments and have managed to get almost everything with the exception of the really expensive cards like Gagne, Minoso who are just out of my price range. If you learn to work the market though stubs can build up really fast. Best of luck and hope you have a great year.

2A. Collection rewards are never sellable. Inning boss rewards were all sellable in 19, and I don’t see any reason for that to change in 20.

Don't buy packs and for sure don't watch any streamers open packs. They open up diamonds like every 10 cards. It is a business strategy (and a good one I might add) by the devs to make the packs seem "lit". People watch streamers and think a diamond every 10 packs is legit. Highly unlikely for you and probably more like 1 in 100 or more.

You will have a much better team by buying players you want instead of packs.

Do you have stats to prove that? Because I once did an opening of 1000 headliners and my diamond % was 9.7%. I don't stream/make videos or anything. And when I say stats, I don't mean "feeling ones" where you are estimating, I mean written down ones where you tracked. Because that is what I did on that opening.

I agree with the premise, packs are not the best way to build a team, but your information is not provided on packs is not true.

But, is there headliners or any special packs opening week?

Don't pay a ton of attention to this, Demise usually has his tinfoil hat on. Within the first couple days/weeks, you're absolutely going to overpay for players if you buy them piece by piece off the market.

IMO, ripping packs early is worth it because you can sell your cards to overpaying buyers and then use those stubs later on to buy the cards you really want off the market.

2019 did have headliners opening week, but If I remember correctly, they were limited to 3, so that 1 in 10 chance means by statistics, about 2 out of 3 people didn't get a diamond if they bought all the packs. So I agree that packs are not the way to go, but the way he presented it was misleading.

I was actually just genuinely curious, i didn't remember. His whole post was misleading and kind of wrong tbf. Lol.
Like lanky said though, packs aren't necessarily a bad idea, considering the inflation of prices for the players you'd pay for anyways.

Don't headliners have a larger % than standard? Isn't standard what you buy at the beginning? That would be a yes and yes. Buying packs based of what happens with streamers is a horrible idea. Isn't the pack odds for diamonds in standards listed as .15%?
