Rumor is that its DD based leagues. Set your DD teams and go through the motions.
Well that would be disappointing. Not really fun playing in a league with people playing with the same exact players as you have.
You can format it in a way that nobody has the same roster/players. There are several basic rules that just about all OFM leagues follow and I'm sure this would become one of them if true.

The problem is you'd have no scouting no trades no players declining which would take the whole point of an online franchise league (key word FRANCHISE) pointless

Understood BUT it's better than nothing... We've been playing OFM since 2016 ( almost 4 years ) and people are spent my guy.. If this gives us ANY sense of hope that they have something in store for NEXT GEN then I'm in.. Even if there's some sort of paywall! Guys may need to do without the fantasy for a year or so and just play with their favorite teams without the ownership aspect of it.. What if those MLB THE SHOW 21 launch title rumors are true? I'm pretty sure they've been working on the next generation of MLB THE SHOW for years which is probably one of the reasons they're looking to cash out with it on XBOX.. THATS A GOOD SIGN RIGHT THERE!! I'm just glad they even mentioned anything about a league and I'm grateful but I'm still not preordering until I find out what exactly this is.. Excruciating but necessary!!

Don't know what you meant by this because I said exactly what I wanted to say.. Couldn't have been any clearer.. By all means? Wait.. Hold up!! You can be defensive and or think too hard about the situation at hand but what you really need to understand is the " length " of this conversation stretches beyond belief do to the fact that we have no idea what the devs have planned.. Next consoles are practically base model high-end PC's which games are developed under and there's plenty of technology ( current ) that may be in play here! Yes, we should all be optimistic but say that were settling only leans toward the " OLD " ground work Sony Sandiego has laid homie... Think about it, They had server issues for years and we knew that which is why ( so they say ) it was left out the code... Now, OFM was lacking compared to offline franchise and just about anybody who've ever spent countless hours playing the mode would tell that an complete, fresh, up to date overhaul was needed and needed now.. I'm sure they know they'd have to come with it and I'm also sure that they wouldn't waste resources on fulfilling that space in 20 when they have to move over to next gen.. That comment just sounds " hyperbolic/frantic " to me and I'd expect someone who hasn't played fresh baseball or more so today's MLB THE SHOW takes in a league setting for years to understand but you know what, if this is just a simple " here, play this for a year " type mode, I'll be more than grateful.. Don't know about you....

Dang, this thread.
I get wanted OFM, but this all or nothing spin is weird,
Isn't it a start that they seem to be making progress towards that? 18 and 19 had nothing similar at all. Recognizing progress isn't the same as settling. -
You're saying it's a step in the right direction and might lead to OFM coming back in next year's game. I disagree. It's likely going to be a tacked on mode to DD and I'm not interested in that.
Also this isn't progress. It's another step backwards, we already had OFM and lost it, until it's brought back there is no progress. I wouldn't be grateful for a washed down version of a game mode I enjoy
Granted we need to wait and see what the mode truly is. For all we know it could be OFM but I doubt that.

In its previous form, it wasn't sustainable, so it was scrapped for 18. This is known. It would have needed to be rebuilt from scratch. The place to start is a platform that can be leveraged across multiple modes, that makes expanding each of those modes much more possible. With the custom leagues we are offered in 20 (whatever that will be) this is the beginning of that rebuild.
There's no point rebuilding OFM as its own standalone thing, it would require a massive amount of resources for limited (financial and games played) reward.
It will return, and in a tighter, leaner, more user-friendly, server-friendly and developer-friendly form. We just need to accept that it will be incremental. SDS will be keeping an eye on quantitative data (which game modes are played) and also qualitative feedback (forums) to make the decisions on how much is jammed into each increment. I'm guessing 21 is going to be the year we see something that resembles 'Online Franchise' again.
EDIT: Why incremental? Much easier to detect and fix problems when there's less things to test. Bed down the things that work in 20, add to it in 21. Rinse and repeat.

This what I'm talking about... Miserably!! ONLINE FRANCHISE MODE has been rebranded and called " ONLINE LEAGUES " and I'd be willing to bet that they're will be more options than before.. NEXT GEN " ONLINE LEAGUES "??? Yeah, you can bet they'll be much much more to come as far as FRANCHISE goes.. Sorry, but you sir were dead wrong!

Thanks for the eval, but I don’t play DD modes. Played some extra innings games in 15 and finished the original Conquest map in 17 but nothing since.
All I play now is Franchise, RTTS and M2O. I’m all for Online Franchise’s return, the only reasons I never played the mode previously were that I had a dodgy internet connection and the way it was setup was laborious. I discredit nobody. Well, on the old forum I discredited DD quite a bit, but now I discredit nobody. The sooner we can all live harmoniously without the us vs them mentality the sooner the game will progress for the benefit of all players.
So to quote a fellow non-DD user, ‘Sorry, but you sir were dead wrong!’

Yeah ok buddy.. Whatever you say.. You're clearly backtracking your statement but it's fine. Far from being stupid! ......
At the end of the day, IT'S BACK!!! I know where I stood from the day they released that letter back in 2017 and I've had many conversations with guys like your self who've said the same thing.. The ONLINE FRANCHISE COMMUNITY always knew that guys like you would all sit at one table and EAT YOUR WORDS!! Now look at you... Boom!!

I think they would have said "On-line franchise" if it was actually a Franchise format. Especially in light of how disappointed many of us were when they removed it. You'd think they'd be excited to let us know that it's back. I am glad that there is a multi season option though.

So you mean to tell me you've never seen devs do away with a mode or gameplay feature then rebrand it a couple years later? Lmao.. You gotta be a pre-teen lol.. NBA 2K's MyLeague was called ONLINE ASSOCIATION MODE 4 years before it returned... Madden CFM was not all ways CONNECTED FRANCHISE! It's pretty obvious that they changed the name to give it a fresh take on the community that whines and cries about everything.. Not only that, there's more to it now! This was a genius idea! People who buy packs will now be able to experience what we've had for years.. The player count will go through the roof now and just wait until it hits the new XBOX!! Our mode is back better than ever.. Some people were born ungrateful so I leave it at that.. If you're one of the ones that felt left out 2 years in a row then you shouldn't have a [censored] thing to say about what it's called what it Intels! Just be thankful.

Ok I'll bite. I much prefer civil conversation and sharing ideas and am not normally one to retaliate to put downs, but I feel that I'm being misrepresented here. The only reason I'm responding to your post directly is that you don't appear to be trolling, it just seems like a misunderstanding so that's cool.
@Dounte, in this here thread, on 25 January I stated that 'with the custom leagues we are offered in 20 this is the beginning of that (Online Franchise) rebuild' and that 'it will return, and in a tighter, leaner, more user-friendly, server-friendly and developer-friendly form. We just need to accept that it will be incremental.'
Your response yesterday: Sorry, but you sir were dead wrong!
Yesterday, in the thread " CREATED LEAGUES WITH FRIENDS " GOD PLEASE LET THIS BE OFM!!! you agreed with @eatyum's assessment (made 11 February) that created leagues with friends could be the start of bringing Online Franchise back and that it's good we are seeing progression towards what we had.
On the same day (yesterday) you disagree with my assessment, you agree with @eatyum's assessment that basically said the same thing two weeks later.
From your most recent response, it sounds like you're still convinced I'm a DD player. Please check my Universal Profile. Also most or all of my MLB The Show YouTube clips from the last five years are from Franchise, RTTS or M2O (like & subscribe if you enjoy). Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against DD players. But disappointingly I feel I have had to defend myself from your label 'guys like you'. You seem like a really nice person and your zest for Online Franchise is second to none. I'd hate for us not to get along because of a misunderstanding - I've been all for the return of OFM since it was removed.
Having said all that, if you still think I'm back-peddling, please point out the statement I made from which I am back-peddling.
Peace.

As Ballgame53 said, if they were bring back Online Franchise then they would label it Online Franchise because that would be appreciated by fans who have been waiting for it to return.
I am guessing you will see no minor leagues (they are not even an option if you choose DD teams over real teams). I will be surprised if there are anything resembling contracts. I will be surprised if there is anything done with player progression. For any of those things to be included they would need completely separate code bases for real team leagues vs DD team leagues.

First of all, I completely understood every incremental mumble from this guy so let's get that straight... Here are the facts: Everything you mentioned may or may not have been implemented in this year's game is well known... Most of already knew from the beginning that they would more than likely leave some things out due to " coding " and other issues PLUS there's NEXT GEN MLB THE SHOW being developed!! Take a look at the OS FORUM!! This is nothing new... Of course there's a chance that it could be bare-boned but I'm pretty confident that most people who continued running leagues on 17 would switch over in a hot second... My gripe with the other guy was merely his pessimistic attempt at not giving the mode a doubt.. I'm done with that because that bubble was bursted with that tweet! At the end of the day, ONLINE LEAGUES is OFM and whenever they decide to add all bells and whistles I'll be there.. Whatever we get during that stream will be much appreciated!! I'm pretty sure they're won't be any whining, crying and complaining coming from the loyal OFM guys! That I can tell you...

Nope....never played NBA or any 2K games. And actually, I'll be 52 in a few weeks .....But while that's entirely possible, I believe that they would't do "rebrand" for FULL CF until the next gen. Just my opinion. But this looks promising. https://blog.us.playstation.com/2020/02/25/mlb-the-show-20-introduces-online-custom-leagues/

I'm guessing 21 is going to be the year we see something that resembles 'Online Franchise' again.
EDIT: Why incremental? Much easier to detect and fix problems when there's less things to test. Bed down the things that work in 20, add to it in 21. Rinse and repeat.
Called it.
No you didn't lol.... You tried to get technical and landed outside the target zone! The mode is deeper than you think.. Just wait until Thursday! Yeah, it's fairly lean like we all thought with it being the last game of this generation but it's a way better start than we all predicted and you know it lol.. Stop it buddy!
